  • Hockey Player Swinging With Slice

Hi, I've started back playing golf after 2 years out and have always had a terrible slice. I also play field hockey in the winter and am wondering if this
is causing my slice as I tend to hit outside in and also I think that i may not be closing the face of the club correctly. Anyone else had this problem.

Sounds like the type of problem people have who play tennis and squash - tennis mainly a firm wrist, squash very flexible. I would agree that the standard hockey technique isn't much use to the golf swing.

Best thing - learn to release the golf club through impact.

Ever had a lesson or study up on the basics of the swing. My guess is that you are just using your natural athletic talent and going out there a swinging away. It would be pretty natural for you to develop a golf swing partly based on that other sport you play which also has stick of some sort where you swing at a ball. You really need to learn different concepts for swinging a golf club. Take some lessons to get you started. Tell the pro you are a field hockey player and maybe that will cue some thoughts on which he can work on your game. Then study, study, study. The internet is a wonderful tool to learn about the basics of the swing. Tips, discussions and videos are everywhere. Take it from someone who played for a very long time using just my natural athletic talent. It is not enough. There are no quick fixes if you want significant improvement.
