Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

Current Masters Champ Zach Johnson does the exact same thing IMO.Watching him on the analyzer looks to me like he never leaves his left side, right leg making sure he doesn't and if that is the case I can see how that works.......

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

There was a deal on Tiger awhile back (can't remember who commented)........But they were saying that he was working on keeping his left shoulder higher than his right at the top of his backswing......I can't remember how long ago this was-but it kind of interested me......Don't know if this is normal or if it's something new or maybe old by now.
      Anybody else heard that???

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

2 of the fundamental differences for me are.

1, big movent to the inside on the way back
        2, the actual tilt part.

You look at the general swing and it is old school, but old school swings had a take away going "back and low" putting hands into a position over right shoulder (RH ers). Byron Nelson was a good example.
New swing is much flatter, really keeping arms connected to "ribs", very rotational.

Cmays, thanks for the drill - that really helps the 'feel', something I'm all about as you know.

May I ask what would be everyone's setup with the driver in this case of the 'new swing' - sorry takinitdeep, I know it's an old one - Wouldn't the weight setup be difference, instead of 60-40 front, more like 50-50? I'm pretty sure if we tried to get our 'centers' in front of the ball at impact, we'd be hitting pretty inconsistently.

The center is not in front of the ball. Just because the weight stays stable with more on front foot, you forgot about the spine tilt away from the target. This spine tilt is very important because it will be the same at impact.
I don't know what you mean about "I know it's an old one"?
Anyway, very simple swing with pivot upper body with back to target. Actually with mid to short irons, I tilt away LESS but the weight stays grounded though my feet.
Also, remember, there are no absolutes. If we say 60:40, it does not mean exact and I bet if we use that fancy device they have at Sawgrass which measures weight distribution, it would be different for many pro's and us too even though we may be hitting pure shots with that distribution.
These are estimates in an effort to get the student to think less about weight transfer and more about pivoting-ala the secret to golf.
You can't move away from the ball and hope to get back in your ideal address position with any consistency.
            Hope this helps.

It's almost a reverse pivot approach. Essentially weight starts on the left side and stays on the left side, keeping you centered over the ball. At the top of the backswing your spine angles toward the target. Follow through your whole body release with a hip thrust at the end getting you back in a small reverse c position.

Basically it takes the weight shift out of the swing. Allowing your swing bottom to stay very consistent.

Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett are the instructors teaching this new method. At one point there new swing one 3 tournaments in a row.

Anybody else looked into this and your thoughts.
Trevino used this method,he maintained the speed of your hips and legs determined the length of the shot.It stops you thrusting with the shoulders, making you come over the top, outside the line.
He watched hogan practice for hours, and was convinced he used his hip slide to control his shot making. The more he led with the hips and legs the more he faded the ball.Trevino went away convinced this was "Hogans secret",he hit thousand of balls every day with this swing thought in mind,at the golf range where he worked .He said this routine led to divorce, but it sure taught him how to hit a golf ball.

That's a great point takin regarding the "thoughts" in the swing. Yesterday, I hit 5 full 9 irons by starting with even more weight on my left leg (call it 70:30). When I turned back, I felt really balanced (50:50), and when I made my downswing and got past impact I felt almost all of the weight move to my left side, call it 85:15. I hit the ball just as far as if I shifted more weight to the right side.

I have been "thinking" about shifting my weight. Sometimes I tend to get the weight stuck on my right side. Well, if its getting stuck there, why put so much weight there in the 1st place. Kinda like a bench press....sure, you can bring 700 lbs down to your chest, but how are you going to get it back up???

You are so spot on about pivoting. I didn't really think about the pivot in the swing until about a month ago. When it was explained to me, and I realized how my hips and shoulders react around this point, I started hitting the ball better.

there is a link on this site to a jeff mann article , he uses a.baddley as an example . i used to suffer from the dreaded reverse pivot and now in my set up i tilt slightly to the left , which has eliminated that problem.i still get a wieght shift, you must if you maintain your spine angle! my game has improved as a result, but as a 52 year old i dont get that huge turn the younger players achieve, wish i played 30 years ago!
