  • how can i go about limiting my lower body movement to create more coil

I have noticed that i tend to be a little too armsy with my swing.....are there any drills to help with keeping my lower body stablized to create more of a coil.....

I currently focus on keeping my spine angle throughout my swing and on the downswing i try to keep head behind the ball and right arm under my lead left arm.....

Stand as if at address with both feet pointing square front and back, now take a turn with your hips to the right, feel the tension down the inside of your right knee. How far can you comfortably turn your hips: around 45 deg?

Now flair the right foot so the toes are pointing 45 deg back, try the exercise again and feel the lack of tension in the right knee. How far could you turn the hips this time: around 60/70 deg?

Now move the right foot back parallel and flair the left foot out to the left by around 45 degrees. Try the exercise again, can you feel the strong coiling in the right leg? how far could you rotate the hips: around 30 deg?

Try keeping your right foot square and flaring your left foot by around 45 deg, this will assist in limiting the hip rotation while allowing yo to make a full shoulder turn.

      Brian,
Phil Ritson used to teach "Duck Feet", which was the flaring of both feet out to get the best of both worlds.
