  • My model swing

We all try to copy the Pro's swing because they are the best. The pro I a copy is Micheal Campbell (GolfDigest.com - Michael Campbell)

I would like to see if am alone in this 'copying' or do others do the same? If so, who is your Pro that you copy?

I watch the swings of one plane swingers mostly. I have been watching Ben Hogans swing lately. He was said to be the best ball striker that ever lived so I figure he was doing something right. Its hard to find footage of him though.

        Baddeley is just ART!

Casey is very decent as well, although he does loop it slightly at the top.

Many people do not realize that their grips are flawed and therefore their swings will be poor as a compensation. It is a small but crucial area of the golf swing preparation. People do not realize that their grips can change from time to time and many of the world's top players like Ernie Els and Michael Campbell are always maintaining, adjusting and monitoring their grips.

Most of my foundational swing mechanics are advice from videos of David Leadbetter & Ernie Els , the modern compact & fairly upright swing. It is more suitable for people who have a natural swinging motion & not for a hitter. I am mostly a swinger.

Swinging the club is what happens in the practice swing. Hitting is what happens when a ball is put down.

                  Hi BrianW ,

There's a different between swingers & hitters. Swingers are like Davis Love or Ernie, have stylish swing & smooth rhythm. Their body are more flexible & have good smooth winding & unwinding ability, hitting the ball with centrifugal force.

Hitters are people who mainly generate power with their muscles rather than mechanics. They usually have fast takeaway & brisk swing action. Most hitter's swing looks unorthodox. Tom Lehman is a good example.

Found this, thought it would help.

                    Hitters and swingers

I'd like to take this opportunity to state very specifically what I mean later in these notes by the terms hitter and swinger. Most clubfitters and many instructors make this distinction, but it tends to be intuitive and imprecise. I believe that:
                    • A swinger is a golfer who depends exclusively on centrifugal force for clubhead speed, and adds no wrist torque during the downswing except that needed to hold a 90ยบ wrist cock.
                    • A hitter is a golfer who depends to some extent on torque applied to the club's grip via the hands and the wrists.
Of course, there are few pure swingers and no pure hitters. But, comparing two golfers, we now have a way to say which one is more of a hitter and which more of a swinger. And, in fact, we can tell from this whether a golfer is primarily a hitter or a swinger.

You may be correct, however, calling someone a "swinger" around here has a totally different meaning.

It was meant to be a light hearted quip
