  • shoulder rotation problem

I just recently had my swing analyzed by golftec.....my issues and does anyone no any drills to help fix

    1. Right shoulder drops to the ball, but my right knee has already collapsed forcing my right knee to be past my shoulder

REACTION OF SWING........my shoulder stays behind right knee past...forces me to release the club to catch up to the ball....it looked as if i actually scoop at the ball to compensate.....my release is good from the video he showed me

TO FIX.....i was told to work on keeping my right knee back as i turn my upper body....it actually felt as if i was squating in a sense to achieve this move....they have their tour average specs that they follow

like literally i was almost bowing right knee to keep it lined with my shoulder and rotating

    can someone please help

    Re: shoulder rotation problem

    Hi trob2034,

I not quite getting what you are a saying but it sounded like you got a reverse pivot problem. If you are a right hander, (at your followthrough finish position) do you have your right knee bend & most weight is still on the right foot? Check if you are transfering the weight from your right foot to the left foot on followthrough.

no...my weight has been pushed forward.....from what the guy told me i have my right knee goes towards my left knee well b4 my shoulder comes and it stays behind when he said it should over my right knee as i begin to come down......

basically i lack shoulder rotation going forward.....

imagine(right handed) at the 90 degree angle coming down parallel to the ground the club is behind b/c and releases at the last second to get to the ball........i was told to rotate my shoulders through the shot not stay behind

        Hi C Mays

Would you also recommend Michelle's Pump drill (#4)- not just for this thread, but in general.

        Cheers

Everything behind the ball is going to have a Pendulum Like effect. Swing the Pendulum to the inside and it swings back outside restricting the left shoulder turn for the right handed golf.

Go to this site and watch the 3rd one down, The Power Drill. Pay very close attention to what Michelle is telling you.

          1. Michelle Dube golf swing drills

The hands or club and how they come out a little on the backswing to allow for a wrist hinge and shoulder turn in the backswing.

Find that and you can put a ball 2 feet outside the left foot and strike the ball solid.

Whoever said to keep the left arm tight against the chest in the backswing, I would like to buy him several drinks. He keeps me in business.

          The right knee.

Some people can walk up to the ball and be in perfect balance. Others who swing the club right handed need to make a little slide to the left to firm up the right leg in the backswing. Feet on the ground, they remain in place.

Jack Nicklaus would slide the left shoulder to the left before the backswing.

Others like to think of the sternum.

I like to feel the lower body slide to the left.

The little slide that shifts the weight from off the little toe side of the right foot to the big toe.

I am not much for toys, but I like the Power Swing.

i see your point in you suggesting that i am swinging too far to the inside....i have seen that on my swing b4.....i dont think he said my left shoulder was a problem but it could be.....the guy stated that my right shoulder stays behind as my leg collapses into the ball.....therefore i am forced to scoop at the ball to make contact and lose my angle(casting)

what he was trying to get me to do was keep the butt of the club ahead of my hands....also keeping my right shoulder over my right knee as i approach the impact postion.......it felt as if i had to force my knee to stay back on the way down which felt very weird but it accomplished the objective.....

should i look up some impact drills to help me out or focus on what you said which is b4 impact

          appreciate all the help

You bet, a great drill if you have everything in working order, otherwise you are hitting a brick wall and going no-where.
            Cheers C Mays

I had praticised and played earlier tonight, before I replied originally.

Practice session was poor- did too few drills- but hit good shots when I got in the groove, however this did not transfer onto the course.

Really struggling with my takeaway- club is going back to closed, and getting no rotation. When I rotate I feel I am fanning the club. Feel my swing is too flat, ie at three quarter position hands are towards the shoulders, rather than being in the centre of the chest.
