Hey guys! Just curious, last night I tried to make a honest effort in starting my downswing, I sort of bump my left back pocket towards the target. Found that if I do this nice and smooth, I have excellant contact with diviot to the left of the ball ( right handed player). Your thoughts gentleman! Thanks in advance. Hcp 9.2

Re: Left Rear Back Pocket
Is it like a short hip check, as in hockey, or a turn? I've read others who talk about "backing into the downswing" or even "starting the downswing with your butt" but never quite got the idea.

Re: Left Rear Back Pocket
In my view, the shifting of the weight to the left is the key ingredient to a good swing - so many other things follow from the correct shift. In particular, the hands, arms and shoulders all move into the correct position as a result of this transfer of weight. Takes care of an awful lot of problems.....

Re: Left Rear Back Pocket
Leading the downswing with the hips is the correct way in the 2 plane swing, as Cmays states.
Something else to consider is to keep your head back behind the ball as the hips slide forward, these two actions allow your right shoulder to drop down bringing your arms and the club to the inside path and pushes your weight firmly over the left leg. If the head slides forward with the hips you will have no option but to hit from the outside.
