  • better iron play...but worse driver play

i recently had my swing analyzed and noticed that my right leg crashes in on my downswing b4 my hands come....worked on that by keeping my leg striaghter on my downswing and had better results on changing my impact position.....it promoted more shoulder turn for me

just yesterday at the range i worked on slowing my backswing and turning shoulder....my ball sriking was better than i have seen it in a while with hitting down with very little effort and thought into it

BUT.....my driver has gone south for the SUMMER....tried telling its not winter but it didnt listen.........i am hooking maybe 6 out of 10 shots(not a good stat).....

    swing question
    1. should i try to swing more inside?...i dont know

how can my irons be better but driver worse...is it possible or am i makign this up in my head

    thx for any help given

Re: better iron play...but worse driver play

I can only speak for my own hooking problem when it shows up. My body does not continue to rotate past impact, which allows my hands to out run my body too much. This closes the club head way too much at impact for me. My own cure is to focus on my body rotation, while making my hands a bit more passive. In other words it is a tempo/timing issue for me.

I am sure there are more reasons that a hooked shot shows up, but the above is my particular issue.

I think I get into this swing problem when I want more distance, and try to swing faster. This gets my arms, and hands out running the rest of my body. Hope this helps. GJS

Re: better iron play...but worse driver play

I have noticed that alot of people that have problems with hooking the ball also seem to "lunge" at the ball and dont keep their head/body behind the ball. My girlfriend who is an excellant driver and hits drive 280+ right along side of me has this issue sometimes. I know for her, even though her swing appears fine she get a little fast off the top thus getting her hands in front of her body. figure out which category you are in and its an easy fix either way.
