  • Weight Shift

I'm having lots of trouble getting my weight to my left side during the downswing. I've talked to my pro about it but he's not able to give me much help. My weght transfer on the backswing is fine with no swaying and I try to start my downswing by shifting my weight but I usally finish with way too much pressure on my back foot. And, needless to say, my shots are pretty ****py from that position.

Can anyone give me any pointers on the correct move to start the throughswing that's get my weight transferred?

    Thanks.

    Billy,

Here is a link to a good thread on the website. A lively discussion of the transition.

If you go to the search tab, and type weight shift There are about 20 or so threads with information.

Thanks Goflbald. I had surfed around the forums but nothing looked obvious to me. I'll check that thread out.

      Thanks again.

Thanks Greg. I'm going to try that as soon as it dries out here. I notice you don't espouse the hip "bump". I was just watching a Ken Venturi video and one of his keys to a swing is to close the gap between the left hip and an imaginary vertical plane coming up from the left foot. In other words, a "bump" with the left hip.

I guess there's lots of ways to skin the cat but I'm surely going to give your drill a try. It seems to make lots of sense.

          Thanks, again.

I can bet that that plane he is talking about is being broken by rotating the hips and not moving them latterly. It is ok to move forward a little as long as you do it while rotating.

Greg, here's an article where Ken Venturi explains the concept of "closing the gaps" including the one between the left hip and the vertical plane. It is an unwinding but part of that unwinding is a lateral move of his hips from looking at his videos.

I think we're talking about the same thing.

BTW, I took a look at your web site and you have some excellent drills there that I want to work on.

Thanks for your replies and I'm looking forward to the walking drill.
