  • Hooking/Draw causes?

Hi there. I'm having problems with my swing. I'm hitting the ball the best i've ever hit it, but I'm hooking/drawing the ball al lot. The ball starts straight and then falls away left.
I'm still hitting them 280 yards plus, but the draw somehow creeps into my game every now and then.
What can be the possible causes for this?
I thought about my grip, left wrist collapsing, too aggesive hips and maybe balance problems, but I'm not able to solve the problem.

    Please help!

I had the same issue about two weeks ago - hit over a 1,000 balls and couldn't correct! BUMMER

Played one time with a semi-pro golfer and he pointed out what I was doing wrong after one swing! And he didn't even know I was having problems - been about a year since I had seen him.

Anyway it was all in my take-away, too much wrist going back to when the shaft is parrellel. Basicall it is all arms (one piece take-away) until the shaft is parrellel then wrist cock the rest of the backswing. The club travels more on the target line for longer without opening the club too much! Not only is it straight now, but has increased fairways hit. Wow is this game easy from the fairway...LOL

    Good Luck

when you go to hit balls and you keep doing the same thing wrong you're better off to just stop because hitting more balls will give you more muscle memory of that bad swing. You should find someone to help you fix the flaw in your swing before you hit balls again otherwise it could just get worse.

one of the many things that makes golf the most difficult game in the world.

You may be waiting for the club to catch up. If that's the case, accelerate the hands faster.

You may be swinging too loosely. The less control you have on the club, the more variation it can do during the swing. One of which is to whip inside-out right around impact. If you understand the principle of the fulcrum, you'll understand how the club can whip around like that.

You may be swinging too much inside-out. If that's the case, practice swinging in slow motion to learn where to put the club at any point during the swing.

Your grip could be too weak or too strong. If it's too weak, you'll be tempted to wait for the club to catch up. If it's too strong, it may catch up sooner than you think. In either case, set your grip with the club pointing up in front of you then lower it down to address position.

          Re: Hooking/Draw causes?

The first thing is for you to understand is what causes that ball flight, starting off straight and then curving to the left. You are hitting the ball with a closed clubface in relation to the swing path. Your swing path is good in that it will be coming from inside to square to inside, this sends the ball off straight. The clubface will be closed as it strikes the ball imparting anti clockwise spin, the initial velocity is overpowering the side spin so it travels straight, as the ball speed drops the spin takes over and bends the flight left.

What should do? The simple answer is to hit the ball with a square clubface, the difficult part is finding why the clubface is closed: It may be an over strong grip, it may be that your shoulders are pointing right of target with your feet parallel, it may be ball position, it may be your arms outracing your body or your wrists turning over too early.

The answer is in there somewhere so either seek some professional help from a coach or start experementing.
