    Informative post

    Hi Kooter,

That's a very interesting and well explained post.

My attention was certainly grabbed by the section about setting up to hit an intentional fade. I have lost count of the number of times that I've set up for a fade, using a driver off the tee, only to see the ball go straight and long. What makes this more frutrating is that I'm usually fighting a slice or pull hook, with my normal, square to target alignment. Trying to hold the shoulder back doesn't fix this problem (for me).

The area of your posting that conflicts with what I have been taught is the "no hit with the hands" part. I know that players like Ben Hogan placed great emphasis on hitting with the hands. Even top modern day players like Tiger Woods and Ernie Els seem to be whipping their hands through at impact.

I may be misconstruing your explanation of this "no hit". If I am, then please add some further info..

    regards,

    Alan N

      Captivating info

      Hi Kooter,

Thanks for the further info. I copied your original post into MS Word and have printed it off, for future reference.

I'm actually going to the driving range, later today, so will attempt to follow your recommendations.

      regards,

      Alan N

swing easier to hit further-a mental challenge

Years ago when I was playing in a tournament with low handicap players, I noticed how easy they were swinging and how far the ball was going. I was always long and straight with my irons but at that time I was only averaging 240 with my driver. I decided right there on the course that if I hit my 5 iron 190-195 yds. that I only needed another 80 yds. with my driver which I pictured as being greatly larger than my little 5 iron. Mentally, I pictured a 5 iron and a sand wedge together equaling my goal of 275 yds driver. Hell, I thought, thats not much to accomplish with such a large club as the driver, so I scaled back on my driver swing as if it were a 5 iron for tempo and lo and behold, I began hitting that driver 275-280 even with a slight draw. It all happened in an instant once I had the mental picture.
So when ever I get into a swing funk, I scale back on swing tempo and sooner or later it all comes back.
