  • Arms connected + playing bare handed

    Hi,

    I got to questions/issues.

    1. I have started to keep my right arm more connected to my chest during the swing (the left was connected already!). I found this to give me an incredible turn + preventing my elbow to "fly". The only downturn is that I can't get my hands in a similar high position at the top as before anymore. Is that just a questions of practice/stretching or will it stay like this?

    2. I have far more touch/feel when I don't use a glove (especially for feeling the clubhead during the swing). What is the downside to playing without a glove/ why do most player use one? and what are the thinnest gloves to use (giving most feel??) I use Callaway leather gloves at the moment.

    1. Streaching and flexability will help the position of your hands in terms of hight at the top of your swing. One thing to note is that your right arm does not stay touching your body at the top of the swing. Your right elbow stays in that down position, but you may let your right arm extend as far as you want away from the body as long as the position of the elbow is pointing down and not raising up in your "flying" position.

The "connection" that is talked about with the body and the right arm is simply that they move as one/together through the turn back and through. You don't want the right arm to take over and try to do the hitting without the help of the rotating shoulders and torso.

    2. Gloves help keep your hands dry and they create a tacky feeling on the grips that help you keep a nice easy grip pressure without worrying about the club flying out. If you play a lot of golf, they also help to not get blisters. But as any golfer will see, you create calises in all the right places after a while, so this is not as important. What is important, is that the grips are clean. I carry a wet wash cloth that I use to wipe them before shots. Then a dry one quickly will create the perfect feel every time. Gloves do reduce the level of feel, and putting and chipping should be done without them. But driving and full shots are not as feel oriented. If you want to use them for that, it is just fine and you don't have to spend 28$ for the thinnest and best leather for 1 or 2 rounds. I like to rotate 3 or 4 each round taking them off afer each shot. This keeps them cleaner and dry and they last a lot longer. The driving range will completly destroy a glove if you smash 40 balls in 30 minutes. So take those old worn-out ones there and leave the nice ones for the course.
