  • Still too steep!

I have a right handed 2 plane swing.

My left arm continues to raise at the start of my downswing. I am having the hardest time dropping my arms. My approach plane is way too steep and I think am coming OTT a bit as well. Though I do stay inside the target line at impact, my shots are sometimes off the toe and/or fat.

Can anyone relate to this and have overcome this affliction?! I've only been playing/learning for 2 seasons now and I feel like I'm stuck at this stage.

I know I need to drop the arms (or allow them to drop) but I just can't seem to get it to work and the focus is throwing off my weight shift since I know the lower body shift/hips open are what typically causes the slot.

    HELP...

    Re: Still too steep!

Check two things, your weight shift and shoulder alignment. To check the effect of weight shift, stand in front of a mirror, go to the top of the backswing, shift your weight to the left side (moving nothing else). Notice how far the arms / shoulders have 'travelled' simply due to this shift. So, the proper weight shift alone starts to position the hands, arms etc in the correct position.

Second point (relating to 'too steep') is to make sure you're not rocking your shoulders (as opposed to simply rotating them). To check this, take your driver and again go to the top of the backswing. At this point, your shoulders should almost be parallel to the ground. This happens not because you've lowered the left shoulder or raised the right but due to the spine angle. If you now stand up straight, your right shoulder should be below the left, as at address. You have therefore rotated the shoulders, not rocked them.
