  • my golf swing

as i have not been able to video my swing yet i thought i might try to write what i do and see what you guys think.
having decided on my line , i take my stance and hold out my club at about 60 degrees up , lighten my grip , and slowly drop the club down behind the ball. this should make me parrallel hips , shoulders , feet , to the target line.breath out and slowly take the club away with a 'turn the shoulders' thought. i try to keep my knees as far apart as i can to prevent any reverse pivot , i think this also limits my hip turn, and i continue my shoulder turn until i feel the muscles in my back tighten up , hopefully around 90 degrees of shoulder turn.i pause at the top and start my down swing from the hips , rotating them towards the target line.after i have hit the ball i continue to look at where the ball was and let my head come up naturally, finishing with my hips and chest pointing at the target and my right foot up on its toes.
from the above brief description am i a 1 or 2 planer or neither , and does it sound like a reasonable swing.
by the way , i do shift my wieght onto my right leg on the backswing.
being 52 and wieghing in at about 152 pounds i cannot muscle the ball 280 yards , but i dont tend to duff many either.
look forward to your considered replies.

    Re: my golf swing

    Hello Bruin:

It's hard to give real and meaningfull feedback on a golf swing based purely on a written description. As one great politician here in the US said when discussing the topic of pornography...."I can't describe it but I know it when I see it...."

Based on your post, you said that you keep your knees as far apart as possible which prevents a reverse pivot. You should not have your knees further than shoulder width apart with a driver and progressively narrower as the clubs decrease in length. Much like stretching for the ball with the arms can feel like a powerful position, the wide stance can be misleading.
For the torso and hips to properly rotate, the feet and legs should support under the hip sockets and if the stance is too wide, you can potentially cut off that ability.

Anyway, is there something you are trying to improve or correct with your swing? Most amateurs 150 lbs or 250 lbs cannot muscle it 280 (honestly or with any consistency). It's not about muscle or size as you can see demonstrated by 100 lb 5 foot women who know how to coordinate and time their golfswings for maximum effeciency and who can by the way, hit it 260 consistently. It's about technique.

See if you can post a video clip of your swing.
