  • What caused for me..just a little slice!

well guys when i played in junior tournament at my local course (we just played 18 holes) i hit an 88 (my personal best) a 46 on the front and 42 on the back (42 is also personal best for 9 holes) i never keep my score ne ways lol

k ne ways almost all day my iron shot would go straight...then barely..and i mean slightly yank right....and my drives would just barely yank right or sometiems barely left...so it was such a small thing that it was amazingly easy to play

ne ways i won the tournament but during the playoff i had to have (me and a friend tied) i hit two major slices...luckily the two holes we played are paralell and i could just play the opposite fairway (lol it actually helped me birdie a par 5 to win) but i went to the driving range the next day and noticed that on every swing my right foot was up further then it should be...so not EVERYTHING was square to my target..now in theory i thought this would cause in inside to outside swing to cause a draw but instead it was causing a slice ...so after adjusting my foot on every swing i was getting even a liitle bit of a hook-ability back and my irons were going much straighter...has this ever happened to anybody...and why didnt it cause me to hit a draw? thanks!

Feet alignment are just one of the items to adjust, there is also the hips, shoulders and club face to look at...so don't think this is easy. Your takeaway and swing path play a role too.

I can hit big-ol' slices with a closed face if I take it way outside-in. Just as easy as a hook/draw with an open face coming way inside-out.

If you are fighting slices, start with the face alignment at impact first. Make sure your not late in the release, and your leg/hip drive are not outracing your arms/hands. Even up your swing a bit -- making each part of the swing's power points equal. That should help square up the face.

The reason having your feet aligned to the left of your target causes a slice is because it causes an in to out swing which puts side spin on the ball and makes it go to the right. Just the same, as you noticed, if you aim your feet to the right of the target it causes side spin to the left and makes a draw happen.

The problem with doing this is that you can mis align yourself then over correct resulting in a bad shot. Alignment is one of the hardest things in golf because you really can't tell if your aligning improperly because you cant stand back and look at yourself.

Just another hard part about this amazingly tough game.

yeh i understand what your saying...im just saying that my feet were the little thing causing my very slight slice ...i never do normally slice except after that tournament i played it becuase i must have been just putting my feet a bit wrong and stuck with it on accident..but yeh i understand about the evenness of the swing which i do work on a lot
