I'm a golfaholic, no question about that. Counseling wouldn't help me. They'd have to put me in prison, and then I'd talk the warden into building a hole or two and teach him how to play. ~Lee Trevino
Update: it went pretty well. I shot a 48, but more importantly, I had only 4 mis-hits. Two were flubbed drives that just rolled 20 or 30 yards. I don't do that very often anymore, and the swings felt okay, but I was experimenting with my stance a little so maybe that was the cause. The other two mis-hits were fairway shots, both of the "heroic" sort, i.e., stupid shots. The rest of the time I was able to swing easy...BUT I did notice myself getting excited, and hitting longer. There's a 130 yd par 3 over pond. I hit it with a PW, which is long for me. So on the next hole I decided a was getting too amped and made a point of slowing it down again, even though I hadn't misfired. So I nipped it in the bud. It's not as though I was suddenly shooting the lights out but my ball-striking was basically sound, and that felt good.
hi ubizmo
sounds like your getting into a grove. keep it up and keep controling the mind and not let it get distracted with to many other thoughts. just think, swing easy.

I just got back from the range (they have one in town now - hurray!).
I was trying to simply swing smooth, and see the result. Smooth back to the top, smooth through - staying in balance the whole way. The only other 'mechanical' thing I was doing was to make sure my head was moving away from target.
The result? Beautiful ball flight, consistent yardage. The same yardage, in fact, as my rushed, 'speedy', snake-killing action that has all the accuracy of aerosol. Now, I think I need another range session or two to ingrain this smooth swing motion, but I'm pretty sure it'll be killer on the course.
