  • Weight issues and fat shots....Help

I originally PM'd CMays about this because he originally responded to my last post, but I thought I would let everyone chime in.

Here is the message I sent him:

I don't want to keep posting the same thing over and over.. I was the one asking about the weight shift on iron shots.

So if I'm in my posture and I have say 60/40 favoring the left leg (front leg for righty) then the weight should stay there? I am the one having a problem with fat shots, and sometimes thin shots.

I guess from what you said the tension I feel on the inside of my right thigh is just from my hip turn? and the weight stays like it was at address?

Sorry again for the PM, but this is a really frustrating part of my game.

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

When I set up I have more weight on my right foot then the left.

"Iron shots" is a little general. There is a difference with technique when swinging a long iron or a short iron. Do you need assistance with all irons or some of them?

Mostly my mid irons i'd say 9-6....Long irons I try to sweep more, but I need help with those too...

        Thanks,

I set up for mid irons with my weight 50/50, stance shoulder width. Sounds like you need to work on the way you distribute your weight. I know there is all this stack and tilt etc these days but what works for me is to allow your weight to get on the inside of the back foot on the backswing, make a good wide takeaway, when you start down allow your weight to move onto your lead foot as you start to rotate your hips back, keep the shoulders turned, allow the arms to drop as the shoulders start to rotate downward around your spine angle, nice steady tempo, head back behind the ball then hit through to a balanced finish with your arms high above the left shoulder.

You are hitting fat or thin due to being on the back foot through impact, this will encourage flipping at the ball.

Sounds exactly like what im doing. I played today with focus on getting my weight on my left side before impact, and the old swing only crept in a few times. I hit the ball much better. I kind of have the feeling that I'm almost sitting on my left leg. It feels like it flexes down right before impact. Don;t know if this is right, but it helped me get my weight over so I can make solid contact. Thanks for all the help guys. Any more tips would be appreciated.
