I have been having trouble pulling and over drawing the ball. I went to the range today to try and sort it. I found that it is my grip. I set up with a fairly neutral grip using the interlock. When I have finished my swing, my hands have moved to the right on the grip thus closing the face. I tried the overlap grip and also tried gripping the club tighter and looser. Nothing fixed it. I stopped at the top of my back swing and found that it had already happened at this point. I tried everything that should be common sense but cannot fix it. Can anyone help me please before I am forced to give up!!

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
Thank you for the replies. I have considered them very carefully. I only have small to medium hands so I doubt if the grips are too small. But, if I thought that would fix it, I would have them changed no probs. The point about the grip turning around the shaft is interesting. Because, I think that is exactly what is happening. However, at the moment, I cannot work out a way of fixing it. I seem to be loosening my grip somehow on the backswing and moving it around the shaft!!! I am desperate to get this fixed. I used to play a fair game of golf but now I am useless.
Thanks
Brian

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
1stly, grip in what looks like slightly - and I mean slightly - open club face. In your practice swing, you will still see the club face swing through square, because of the rotation in your forearms.
Then - try - don't think about, just try (because I'm a 21HC and accordingly, can't possibly give advice) - concentrating on getting your right hand (are you right handed?) to pull your left hand further away from the ball in the back swing. Your left shoulder should just touch your chin. Don't swing hard - swing easy, but concentrate on the extension in your left arm - your left hand needs to be as far away from the ball as possible.
Then swing easy.
I have the exact same problem as you, and the above is working for me at the moment. I too have ladies' hands. Let me know how you get on..?

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
Maybe the club is not rotating in your hands. You may just be positioning your hands in a different position at address than that at impact. Have you marked where your left thumb sits at address against where it is at completion?

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
Hi There
I agree with Brian, it sounds like you are moving your hands through the swing, I think the most common is to rotate the right hand, to the left during the swing, usually tention that causes it. Looks ok at set up but then when you increase grip pressure the right hand moves around the grip.
Hopefully this may help, when practicing take a tee peg and put it between your right thumb and palm at address, you will have to have a little pressure to hold the tee peg, but the pressure will be the correct type (between the thumb and hand), not squeezing the grip.
Hope this helps
Ian.

Yes, to Brian. My grips have thumb marks on them so it is easy to see that either the club has moved or my hands have. Will try the tee thing when I get to the range. The tension thing sound possible too as I am getting more and more uptight about this thing.

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
HI Brain,
Putting the tee peg between your thumb and hand will relieve the tention on the grip but, looking at you last entry, you have identified the main problem, "it's on your mind"
I have always found changing the grip the most difficult of any golf swing changes, if you think grip for one minute it can ruin your game instantly.
Tighening your grip can make you throw the right shoulder out too, causing pulls to the 'Left'.........again all tention.
My point being: your grip maybe fine, just simply tention..........maybe look at your reflection in a window to see if your grip is ok, if it is then you must work on relaxing through the ball.

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
Hi, I know theres a few possible remedies already posted but I too would have problems with a pulled draw shot. I couldn't correct it until i had a video lesson. (I would highly recommend this) The problem I had and which sounds like what your doing is that in my takeaway the club face was looking at the ball for too long. My forearms never rotated away properly.
Firstly make some practice swings and stop half way back. Check the club face position, the toe of the club should bepointing stright up(12 o clock). If its pointing to 11 or 10 O'Clock then the club face is closed and has not rotated properly.
Another check is at the top of the backswing, for this you'll need to swing to the top and check in a mirror the clubface. The club face should be pointing to the ground near the ball at roughly half four on the clock face and should be matching the angle of your left wrist. If however the club face is pointing towards the sky your club face is closed. Even if you make the perfect downswing if you release the club properly the ball will start left and draw.
To correct this you'll need to practice your takeaway to the halfway back position over & over again. Take the club away to the half way back position (this is where the clubshaft is parallel to the ground and pointing parallel to the target line) and then stop. Check the face angle as above and if your face is closed correct it then come back to the ball and repeat over & over untill the brain accepts the feeling of where you want the club face. From there practice hinging the wrists and continuing to the top.
If you get the club face in the correct positions you should feel that you can turn the club face over(release) without fear of pulling the ball.
Hope this is of some help.

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
You are re-griping it just before you take the club back. And it is probably unnoticeable. Your setup routing probably has this little "re-grip hitch".Originally posted by miffin View Post... I stopped at the top of my back swing and found that it had already happened at this point. ...
Try this:
* Setup with just your left hand on the club. Make everything square...stance, shoulders, and club face...make sure you are happy with your grip in your left hand.
* Without really gripping the club in your right hand, just let it help you take the club to the top. From the top, now grip the club in your right hand and pause.
* Slowly return back to setup and notice your right hand's position. Is this different from your normal right hand's setup grip?

Re: Mystery fault, please help.
Back from range and feel the fault is mostly due to tension. I was trying to improve this with another fault I have at the same time. I have not got it completely right yet but feel I made good improvement tonight. Thanks to every one and I have decided to keep visiting the range and work on these suggestion.s
