golf balls! used or new??

Hey guys,
Do golf balls really make a difference to a 12-15 handicapper. I never buy new golf balls, but buy used. Would I find a big difference if I bought a new sleeve of callaways, instead of using used balls like top flite or any other used golf balls.
In other words should I invest in brand new golf balls or keep to buying used.
Look forward to hearing for some feedback.

Golf balls should make a big difference for a 12 to 15 handicapper. I'm not saying you need to buy new. But you'd get much more consitency out of a ball if it's new.

Personally I think that type of ball is much more important than if it's new or not.

I personally stay completely clear of Rock Flite I mean top flite. If you were over a 22 handicap, the ball probably won't make as much difference, but for 12 it's huge.

I would agree with dannyra. The type of ball would be important ie wether they are a hard distance golf ball or one that spins more. But a 12 handicap would benfit by playing the same type of golf ball so that he knows how it will react when it hits the green.

I am not sure the new v. used matters as much.

Yeah it's more the type of ball that matters. Top Flites are rocks and are hard to get distance or spin becuase they are cheap, but I do kinda like the D2 balls they came out with, for a Top Flite ball they aren't bad at all. I'd consider playing them if i didn't get balls for free lol.

Hello all:

The big trap with weekend players is just grabbing whatever ball is in the bag without regard to type, condition and once again color.

A 12 handicap can use a ball in the 20 dollar US range and get a very workable ball for their game. In fact these balls usually offer more distance in addition to adequate playability around the greens. Companies such as Titleist, Callaway,NIke etc all offer balls at this price point.

The problem that I have seen in many golf shops is a total lack of understanding by the staff (usually not PGA teeachers) about the wide variety of balls available. You're better off researching online for this info before going to purchase.

I attempted, unsuccessfully a few years back to persuade manufactures to let me package various name brand balls in dozen packages. This would be a sleeve of PRO V's, NIKE ONE, Callaway TOUR HX or other brand to allow a consumer to try a variety of premium balls at the dozen price. It was mainly concocted as a novelty idea similiar to what liquer companies do around the holidays.....the old variety pack idea. I felt a packaging idea like this would sell great during the holidays, fathers day etc. It would be an opportunity for the recipient to try out the good stuff and see what really fit his game. I thought it was a nice business plan but met resistance.

Keep the used, bargain barrel balls for practice as they are almost always drained from ponds or other water hazards. For the price of green fees these days I would not bother with a 50 cent ball that could go anywhere or nowhere.

Try to stick with one type of ball during play when you find one that you like because the consistency you can develop can really benefit your game.
