I'm a lefty with 26 handicap. My tee shots and long iron shots tend to go to the left of target about 20 yards off. I figure this is due to and "in to out" swing.I have had my grip checked and seems ok.Any suggestions how to correct this?

That indicates an Out-to-In swing if the ball curves that way. It is your alignment of either your shoulders, hips and/or feet if the ball is on a straight line that way.

      Cavendish,

During your practice sessions, place a peice of steel or pvc pipe with 2 screws in the end to anchor it behind your heels. Put both heels on the pipe and take a setup does your back foot seem to far back. You may have your heels off line.

The other thing to check is this. I had to overcome this problem a few years ago and still do it from time to time. When you are taking your setup position, you bend forward from the ball joints of the hips not he waist. If you look directly forward, your line of sight would be behind the ball. If you turn your head to look at the back of the ball, your shoulders will move to a open position from a square position. This in combination of the left foot being forward will cause a slice. To fix this problem, instead of looking directly at the ball use your periferal vision after the complete setup. Focus forward and about 1-3 inches above the clubhead. Your shoulders will remain square. You will have much more success with your swing if these two things are corrected.

Once this is accomplished, feel like you are swinging down a line about 10* left of your target never to the right of it. The ball should begin to draw to the right.

Hope this helps please reply with any questions,

            reply

hi golfbald, i am a righty and maybe my post is not in sinc with the discussion, if so, i appologize. but it seemed i could get something out of it. after reading the first post my reaction was, 20 yard left of target! not bad and probably just on the edge of the fairway from a tee shot. as you know i am just learning, so i tend to eat up and take in pointers. i just recently started leaving the driver at home and only use the irons in the game to work on them. just recently i saw on tv a women pro talking about how to control the fad, straight shot, and the other. it seemed she was suggesting it was how she adjusted her stance and your explaination seemed to be away to check out if your stance adjustment was true and want you wanted for a given shot. so i was reading into your explanation away to test it. if i have diverted the direction of the post again i appologize.
