    Re: Complete the Backswing

I think you are going to find that it all boils down to shoulder turn. There are an awful lot of PGA pros that stop at the top like you are describing. personally, I stop at the top where you do and I have never had a problem with distance.

      Re: Complete the Backswing

I have a friend who is a teaching pro ( in his 40's ) to the young pros on the European tour.He was teaching his young son and he asked him why he had a 3/4 back swing. His son replied "because I watch you and thats how you swing'.His Dad replied "thats because I cannot get to the top,its not out of choice'.
I am the same I have a short back swing, but then I am 66.but still playing off 8,so its not really a disadvantage.

          Hello Mooresteve,
I assume you have a square stance and a 5 iron positioned mid stance.
Take your grip with your right arm bent towards the right hip, left arm straight.
Bend your wrists so the club shaft is now parallel( horizontal) to the ground and pointing a couple of inches back of the square line. You should see one knuckle of the left hand and two of the right. This will give a closed effect to the clubface. Now just turn your shoulders to complete your rotation.
Your club will be in the perfect plane at the top of your swing.
Now complete the downswing and you will likely find you achieve a very pleasant surprising outcome. The perfect power shot.
Practice the feel of this a number of times.I expect it to feel different for you. Now go to the practice tee and do the swing in two parts a couple of times to ensure you get the desired wrist break then gradually run the two parts together to attain a fluid swing. When ever you get a different outcome from that desired go back to check to see you are completing a complete wrist break at the beginning of your swing.
          Good luck and be thrilled,

            thanks

So you cock your wrists before you even swing back. Surely you can only practice doing this and not on the actual course ?

is there anywhere on the web with pictures of this ?

I also happened to see this site: Free Golf Instruction online using the, which shows somebody being instructed in the early wrist cock swing.
