im a 12 handicapper and im in the process of changing my swing i was wondering roughly how active the hands should be in the downswing?
i have seen videos of pros and there hands get steep so quick. should this be normal for a club golfer?
    cheers

    Hello TheBigMan's Friend!

There are two types of swings a hitter (right hand dominate) and swingers (Left hand dominate). The hand movement you are describing is from a swinger. A hitter has little hand movement at impact.

Which swing are you changing to? You must know which parts go with which swing to be successful at either.

      hey, the name is badds
Thanks for replying, the swing is more right hand dominated.
I was more meaning when the backswing is finished, what moves first. Lead with the shoulder, hips, knee...i just aint sure. The pro's seem to bring the club back down on plane while transfering weight, where i think i transfer weight first. Also my hands aint steep...just i was meanin roughly, a solid movement from the backswing down would be.....?
      Cheers

        Baddsy,

I am also a hitter, right hand dominate swing. I start down with the knees shifting directions (weight shift), right heel comes off the ground, this action will cause the right shoulder rotating from a high to low postion, as the shoulders are rotating (shortly after the weight shift) straighten your right arm and your right wrist will snap like a whip at the bottom. It will feel like the swing is coming off the right hip. Swing through to a finish, any hesitation and the tempo and correct action are gone. It's not a jerky motion, just one smooth action.

Just for my tempo, I would say it's like a roller coaster first hill. Slow and steady to the top, everything getting on plane for a dynamic release. At the top, like a rollercoaster, when the weight shift happens is a slow motion as not to disrupt the plane, like the first few coaster cars coming over the top but not getting up to full speed yet. The right arm straightening is like the fall on the first hill screaming into the ball. The wrist uncocking and squaring to the ball is like the bottom of the hill, everything is released down the target line. The ball seperates and decleration occurs into the finish just like moving up to the next hill. When I'm warmed up my release is a blur. I have people ask where the power is in my swing, it's all at the point of release the fastest point of the swing.
