  • For those who want to know or learn about the 3 skills

The other thread is getting a bit long winded so I thought I might try this way.
This thread is for anyone wanting advice giving advice or generally reporting on their experiences. All those who just want to slag the skills off or the people trying to help others understand it, without even trying it or reading the book please stay away.
If you do try it and it doesn't work for you come along and please discuss the why and wherefore so that people might be able to help you.

There thats all nice and plain and polite.

Looking forward to a proper discussion

    Cheers Keith

i'll keep it brief , tried the idea on the course today, over the last 2 holes, much improved ball striking, so have ordered the book on the strength of this and testomies on this site, look forward to a better discussion when i have tried the skills

Hi Keith, I posted this earlier before I read yours

I took up golf recently but found that I was really struggling. I was almost about to give up when I discovered the 3 Skills book. I have started working on the drills at the range and I am starting to get some positive results. I can manage Skill 1 reasonably well and I am actually quite good at Skill 2. However, when I try to put the two together, I`m all over the place. Can anyone offer me any advice on this?

I would have liked a bit more info on Skill 3 from the book - I think that by asking us to imagine the ball starting out right and drawing back is asking a bit too much for beginners. Is there anything else I can do for Skill 3?

Should I keep persevering with this method? - will it help my game, which up until now has not been pretty!

Keep persevering mate and practice the drills from the book, all i can add is that if you keep the faith in that imaginary draw.Try the baseball swing drill to help you believe in the natural way the club head rotates through impact. There is also a little bit about the grip if you find that you are hooking or leaving it out right (check it out).
The best people to take you through it will be either Greg or Kev both of whom I am sure will pick up this thread and advise you.
        Cheers Keith

got the book and have read from cover to cover several times.
          ok with sk1
had a little trouble with sk2...some balls went right some straight.
just come back from the range, applied all 3 skills together and hit massive distances but all dead straight only managed 1 draw from 50 balls.
did not hit the head cover once , so i must be attacking the ball inside, with an open clubface and i just let it close naturally, really nice feeling, so what about this draw?do i just continue as i am .
one thing , i have not taken this to the course yet , hopefully on monday weather permitting i will . this should give me a better indication of sk1 than off a mat.

could anyone post some brief details of what the 3 skills are, as iam reading with interest, but unable imagine what it is your trying to groove.

            ps.
my ball striking with my irons is appalling lately. my woods are fine but irons ,well I have now lost all confidence.

so some help would be appreciated.

Killer, your private message to me indicates you are not laughing. For what its worth, I posted a similar post to yours a few weeks ago.
I was just kidding and hoped someone would have a sense of humor about all this 3 skills stuff.
                    Sorry
(cmays-you should know my sense of humor by now, no harm intended)

Re: For those who want to know or learn about the 3 skills

After 3 range sessions. I took the 3 skills to the course today. Somewhat disappointing I am afraid. For the first 6 holes, I could not get a drive on the fairway. The positive point being that my iron play was definately better. After 6 holes I went back to my old way of driving and with the improved iron play had a decent round. So I am wondering now, do I just use the 3 skills on irons or what?

Re: For those who want to know or learn about the 3 skills

Obviously I don't know what problems you had and I'm far from an expert on this but the 3SKS are applicable to all clubs - even apparently the flat stick but I'm dubious on that - for what its worth, my initial experience was similar.

I found two things with the woods, both disastrous, in the way I tried to implement the skills:

                        a) I overcooked the rotation
                        b) I tipped my already too steep swing way over the edge

Just a suggestion but you might want to:

                        a) Try visualising S3 rather than consciously doing anything if that makes sense
                        b) Think about "correct angle of descent" rather than "hitting down" as you move through the clubs - its in the book with pictures of nails at different angles.

                        Good Luck

                          Takinitdeep,
its pleasing to hear this is your sense of humour, and not as I first thought, a Patronising remark. as I do usually value your replies to posts on this site.

                          you are redeemed.
