  • to tilt or not

i read on line an instruction which address set up and after going through the normal stuff, the final remark was; advanced players should work on tilting thier upper body away from the ball(similar to seeing the line of your shirt buttons form an angle away from the ball. i started this and it seem to work on the driver,3i,4i,5i,6i. but when i try it on the 8,9, and w i dont seem to get the accurancy of the shot i want. Many times i take thangs very literally so i was looking for yalls imput?

    thank

    Book recommendation

No offense but you sound like you could use a good book on fundamentals. I often recommend "The Encyclopedia of golf techniques" by Paul Foston. Its an older book but have good sound fundamentals along with more advanced techniques covering anything you could want along with lots of how to photos.
    Just a suggestion.

      Spine angle tilt

      Hi paterick,

You are quite correct in what you have read. This actual tilting of the spine angle is a position that is normally achieved naturally and more so with the longer clubs. This is primarily because the ball is positioned furher forward in your stance with the longer clubs.

I have included the photo below to give you an understanding of the slight tilt angle in the spine. Whilst this is not something that generally needs to be worked on, some people do slip into the habbit of standing to straight spined with the longer clubs - but this is generally caused by the ball being to far back in the stance.

      Hope this helps

thanks guys, and no offense taken. i am spoiled with internet research and gave up on books.

so the tilt decreses as the iron get shorter.

        thanks

          Spine angle

Yes, but this is something that you should not really have to think about. If your ball position is correct and your weight balance on each foot is correct then you should automatically adopt this position. If you do think that you have this position get someone to take a photo of you and post it as an attachment with your next post and I will have a look. Otherwise get your local P.G.A Pro to have a look and let us know the results.

          Thanks
