  • "Stack and Tilt" vs "Natural Golf"

I'm a 60 year old 16 handicapper in Canada who is struggling with diminishing flexibilty and trying to keep up with playing partners who are younger than I.

The late Moe Norman was a player in our area of Ontario who gained some fame among students of the golf swing. The "Natural Golf" schools have adopted and adapted Moe's swing and teach it throughout the US.

Is "stack and tilt" similar? Mike Weir, from just down the road seems to be getting along with his conversion to the method.

Are any of you out there experimenting or familiar with either of these methods?

    David Magee, Wingham, Ontario, Canada.

I tried S&T , worked for a short while. Great striking for a month, then went really bad. (43ys old, 9hc)

If you have flexibility probs S&T is a No No, it puts a lot of strain on lower back.

I would see a pro and get them to work a swing for your physical range of movements.

If you get a chance to view Tommy Armour III's swing I believe you'll get a good representation of what is meant by "Stack and Tilt".
Natural Golf is a single-plane swing achieved by a unique way of holding (grip) the club, that aligns your trail forearm and the club shaft on the same plane.

The key advantage to the Natural Golf swing is that we can fully release the force of the clubhead right past our body without the need for turning or twisting. That’s because our setup positions us at address where we will most naturally return during the swing at impact, with our arms aligned with the clubshaft. Our body is stable at address so it returns to stable at impact while our arms and the clubhead swing past. Then we simply follow the momentum by turning to a stress free and balanced finish.

I hope that clears up any confusion,
