Does anyone use the Boomerang training aid for putting and, if so, what do you think of it?

    Re: Boomerang training aid

I have the boomerang. I like it, but, like all training aids, it takes willpower to set it up and use it. I use it mostly in the winter when I can't get out on a course or driving range.

It helps a lot with lag putting. Since it is basically a straight line putt, it doesn't help much with "real-world" putts except with distance control (which is important). I find it difficult, though, to transfer the distance control from the boomerang to the course since the boomerang is an uphill put always.

By the way, it is much, much harder than it seems. There is a drill in which you sink one ball and knock it out with the next. I can only do this twice in a row, maximum. I think the world record is maybe 15 times.

I bought it on ebay for a good price, so I am happy with the purchase. It is a training aid that I still use (after one year), so that is better than some other aids I've bought that just sit in my basement.

    Just my 2 cents.

A very good training aid - IMO better than the 'dennco' style gravity feed putt trainers.

Ken, you need to develop your visualisation. The reason the the Boomerang is setup the way it is is to simulate different distance putts. I forget offhand what each setting is, but that's one reason why it's an 'uphill putt' - so that you have to use the pace that would get you a 10 foot putt to the cup from 3 feet from the base, IIRC, on a green that stimps at 11. The power required to get it up the slope is the same to knock in the 10 footer. What I'm not clear on is if it's enough to die it in or run it 14" past. Either way, that's the logic. The tough part, for some, is visualising a 10 foot straight putt.

Like Ken, mine gets mostly winter use. It's great for teaching you how to putt straight (without pushing or pulling) as every putt is really a straight putt - you want to start the ball straight on your line, right?

        hi
i use the boomerang and like Ken and lowpost i use it more in the winter and some times spend hours putting, the best i have got is 12 and after about 15 minuets i can normally do about 5, i think its the best putting aid for learning pace and also you can adjust the length of your putts too. its so hard to get over here in the uk.
        I'd give it 9 out of 10.

I read somewhere that the second ball you hit is supposed to be 14" or 17" past to correctly hit the ball out of the hole. Not sure about the first putt though to whoever asked that question.

I just bought one off of ebay so once I get to use it a little I'll chip back in and tell you guys what I think.
