  • What's the loft of a 9 wood?

    I've got a gap in my club range just beyond the 7 wood range and every round I play lately I say to myself "must get a 9 wood"
    I can't find one, but notice there are a lot of utility clubs that would do the job, I just need to know what the loft of a 9 wood is so I don't end up getting another 7 wood equivalent?

      Lessee.

      3 = 15°
      5 = 18°
      7 = 22°

      SO

      9 = 26°

      Now, I've also seen a 7w at 21° (to replace the modern 3i), so a 24 or 25° club should do you.

      In fact, my best advice is to find out the loft of your 7 wood, then go 3 or 4 degrees weaker (more lofted). 3 or 4 will depend on your swing speed, as you want a decent yardage gap.

        Thanks, I got my 9-wood, and the very first on-course shot I hit with it left me a 2 foot tap-in for birdie - this tee shot was on one of the holes that I had specifically bought the club for, a 176yd par 3 that my 7-wood was always too much for.
