    Re: Clampett: The Impact Zone

sorry cmays i still don't get it, are you saying that it don't matter if the shaft leans forward or if it straight up.
if you move the shaft forward and back but have the leading edge of the club fixed you change the loft.
maybe i just don't know what you mean or I'm thinking of things a different way. i feel as if I'm not understanding what you mean, not grasping it at all.
    cheers

      Re: Clampett: The Impact Zone

Playing a ball back in the stance has the same effect as moving the hands forward, it delofts the clubface at impact which will create a lower ball flight and lower spin rates. You can mix and match these by say placing the ball back a bit, the hands ahead a bit and hitting with a low angle of approach. Call it a stinger, a knock down or what ever they are just applying the same laws of flight and ballistics.

It's just cause and effect plus some skill in execution.

        hi cmays
i understand about the child swing and also that if you play the ball back in your stance you can hit the ball on a higher axis but with the same loft and send the ball lower. so i think i understand now.
thank again for taking the time to explain to me.

          Re: Clampett: The Impact Zone

Clampett may be a teacher but I never thought of him as more than a fine club player with rather limited knowledge.
Anyway, I do shaft lean with every club, some more than others; the important thing is not to get the hands too far ahead at impact-blading/shanking will occur.
As the hands get to almost left thigh at impact, they should stop to allow the whipping action of the clubhead to pass the hands by then followthrough occurs.
Many allow the hands to continue on to and past left thigh thus losing the lag and creating the blading effect.
Ball position and shaft lean are personal preferences rather than swing imperatives.
