as a matter of interest, how much further are you hitting your irons,i think about 15 yards on average, with the odd one 20yards.enough to make me continue with this , just need to do the same with the woods.
lets hope we both get there soon!

I would say exactly the same for me. But also the shape of the shot is so rewarding too. Good luck with it.

At last it may be paying off. In the 12 hole winter comp today I played best I have played since I have been back from my 3 year lay off.

            Hi,

Can I advise any 3SKs guys if you are pulling and hooking, when rotating you will note that the ball flight is great and powerful, all you need to do is start it out more to the right as per the book.

Ok flipping malarky is all I can describe it like, I feel like I hold the face open longer and flip at the last minute, this is natural because I can't hold it any longer, (don't intentionally 'flip'). I mentioned this before my pre-shot is to hold the face open all the way past the ball, do this in your swing and the ball starts out right and gently draws back.

Just thought to add, it's like keeping the butt of the club pointing at the target as long as possible......!!

Hope this helps thoses who are hooking and pulling.

            Ian.

Re: The 3 skills and me

              Hi Guys,

I have had the book a while now. My irons where from the word go fantastic, my woods and drive pulled, hooked, sliced, you name it I had it. I've bean putting a lot of time in at the range and I can say it is paying off, Yesterday I spent a good couple of hours there and hit 160 balls, working on the 3sk. I was hitting balls out of the middle time and time again. My driver was very long with a great draw. It just seems to have clicked into place, the od ball was a slight hook but nothing too bad. The power and ease of hammering the ball was great. Towards the end of the session I tried to see how far I could blast my 3 wood, I could hit it as hard as I could it went a mile with a draw, a couple in the bay next to me stopped playing and started watching me, making the od comment that I must be one of these long hitters. Man, I was smiling from ear to ear, what a great feeling it was. I hit with every club in my bag and could hammer it to the spot I was aiming for.

It's a shame the seson is coming to an end. I have a game coming up next week if the snow holds out, and I just know I'm going to play well.

Re: The 3 skills and me

I have not read 3skills. I have not read all the posts on 3skills.

Would I be accurate in thinking that those who are getting used to 3 skills could liken the feeling to chopping a tree down at its' base?

When you chop with an axe at the base of a tree, you don't flip the wrists for extra oomph. You lead with the hands and end up feeling like the right shoulder (for righties) connects with the impact at the same time the axe blade connects with the trunk. If you filmed it, your hands would be way ahead of your axe blade with your weight firmly on your left side and the blade dug squarely into the trunk.

                ???????????????????????

I must be a tree chopper then. 3sk has changed my game and I think it is going to get better. In all honesty though, it could be 2sk for me. I only use the first 2 skills at the moment and I get mostly straight shots. The occassional one will draw a bit. So I am satisfied with 2sk. However, I do intend to bring sk3 in when I can get a few trips to the range. Then I will see whether I am a tree chopper or something else!

                    Hi Brian,

could it be that you are also getting the third skill in your swing but you do not realise it because you are just letting it happen?.

Re: The 3 skills and me

Well it could be that I am doing it automatically Ian. I think in that case it is leave well alone. I was having trouble with my grip and was unknowingly moving my hands clockways on the grip in the backswing. So I have started taking up this grip position to start with (it seemed a bit awkward at first) and it has kicked the 3sk in for me. To give you an idea, the Sunday before last my partner and myself got 12 points in a 12 hole comp. We got 6 each. I was really down. This week we got 19 points and I got 17 of them! Hope I continue on these lines. Thanks for the suggestion.

                        Hi Neil,

3 Skills is a fairly unique teaching method as it does not tell you how to swing the club or move your body. It only teaches you how the clubface should approach and hit the ball and wants you to completely let go of swing thoughts.

The 3rd skill is about the clubface approaching the ball with an open face that squares on impact then closes after. The book does not tell you how to achieve this, it does have a number of simple to follow drills and imagery that allow you to understand the concepts though.

I hope this clarifies a bit.

                          Hi Bri!

                          Thanks for that.

I like pictures and feelings in order to try and relate the feeling of a good swing to something else.

That's why I was thinking of the ol' tree chopping idea.

Would this feeling relate to 3skills (performed correctly!)?

Out of interest, I've just been down the range and applied my tree chopping thoughts and I must say the results in terms of both swing look and performance are super duper!

                            Hi Neil,

Yes, I like the idea of chopping an axe into a tree.

The 3skills book is full of imagery. The 1st skill where you are taught to hit on the sweetspot of every club uses images of hitting nails into the ball, 20 deg for wedges and mid irons, 10 deg for long irons, recoveries and fairway woods, horizontal for the driver and teed 3 wood. This part seems to have greatly improved everyone's ball striking that has used it, it did mine. Rather than an axe the image used is the path a hammer would take to a nail, coming through on an arc, similar to the axe actually.
