  • Bending my Knees

I have been troubled for months with awful slices and the occasional pull. I tried everything to get rid of my problem but nothing seemed to work. I had advice from many friends but all to no avail.

By chance I noticed that I had unknowingly become too erect in my stance and that my knees had no bend in them. How this had happened remains a mystery but when I started to hit balls with flexed knees and addressing the ball with the heel part of my club rather than at center, my slicing ceased. It is too early yet to tell if this was my only problem but I am overjoyed right now.

By being so erect, you lost your leg action and maybe your weight transfer which left you weak and to the right.
Good posture includes slight knee flex and leg action for weight transfer and active legs for forward transfer also.
Too much leg flex is almost as bad as none at all, so watch for what works best for you. Knee flex leads to a flatter swing-that's a good thing.

Yes, the legs really provide the foundation for the swing. This needs to be pretty solid. Saying that does not mean keeping the legs rigid. Rather, the legs should react in a limited way to accommodate and facilitate the rest of the swing motion.

Sounds as if you may have a general problem in the sense that you like to stand up generally in the swing. Therefore, with the new leg flex, make sure you maintain that flex and spine angle.

Thanks for the comments guys. I will be sure to pay attention to the angle of my spine and not to flex my knees too much when I play tomorrow. I just hope that straight shots rule the day again.

A word of warning: if you have been overflexing your knees for awhile, be prepared to hit some topped shots until you get used to standing more erect. Make sure you stay down through the shot.
