  • Big Guy Swing Problems

I would like to direct this thread to Cmays, but any feedback welcome. I am a big chested guy, 6ft. 1” 250 lbs, I have been playing for only 8 years with no formal lessons. I would like your help with the correct swing path for a big guy. Right now I have a strong grip, upright swing, and tend to hook most of my shots, I have experimented with the strong grip, open club face and still hook. After lurking here for sometime I value your opinion for a big guy with swing problems. I know it is difficult to give a valued opinion without a swing video, but I do not have that resource at the moment. Appreciate any input.

    Cmays,
Your comment of the shoulders being locked is certainly true in my case. I tried what you suggested at home, extending my arms out in front of my body, flex the elbows a little, then address the ball. When I do this, my swing seems freer and I notice I have more control of the club, hopefully it will pay dividends when I can get to the range.

I have tried to weaken my grip to a more flat left wrist at address, but on the DS I feel I have to flip the club over too much thereby causing me to come more over the top. On the DS with my strong grip, I just curl my left fingers which helps keep my hands ahead of the club head at impact.

    Thank you for your comments,
    Rodger
