  • Shoulders and Hips

I had this great golf instructor who took the time to explain how the shoulders and hips work in the swing.

I am a right hander so this is from my side of the swing.

When you have a club placed across your shoulders at address and allow the right shoulder to come up in the back swing bringing the hands up and the left shoulder replaces the right shoulder in which you do not cross over or push out on the shaft of the club that is across your shoulders, you allow the right groin to come up and maintain the right knee flex in the backswing. A little lateral shift to the rear and there is no need for the little hip bump out towards the target.

Allow the animation to download of abc of golf in the new members section/hello all and focus on the x of the lower portion of the zipper and right groin. The right groin comes up in the back swing.

Is it Ok to post this one more time for study, I do not want to upset anyone?

Just look at the moving picture on the left side, throwing the right shoulder out is another action that you need to train for.

    Golf Down Swing @ ABC-of-Golf

In the downswing I bring the left hip back out a little, the right groin drops back down and I feel the right shoulder dropping down.

My hands just come up and down in this swing in front of my body and my hips are like a little bell trying to ring.

I have a very simple swing, the rest was learning about wrist release.

If I turn the left shoulder around in the backswing or even the chest around in the backswing which forces the left shoulder out over the shaft of the club that is across the shoulders, I then have the little forward hip bump towards the target at address so I can make a little lateral move in the downswing and allow the hips to turn out of the way which lowers the hands and arms in front of my body in the downswing. In this swing I try to have the feeling of being conected with the right arm and elbow in the backswing and down into the forward swing. I allow my left shoulder to turn out and my hips turn around in the backswing.

When I drop my left foot or change and drop the right foot back at address then my hips are of little concern and I can turn more from the shoulders if I use the swing that causes me to push out on the shaft that is across my shoulders.

I just swing with a good wrist hinge.

Right Wrist Hinge for the Right Hander:

Right shoulder and hands up in the backswing and the right wrist can hinge up from the thumb in the backswing.

Swing around the body and you will want to prevent any hinging up from the thumb of the right wrist or you will open the face of the club and it will remain open in the downswing and is very hard to close.

I should of called this section, shoulders, hips and wrist.

I quite like the bell ringing idea!
