    I am curious as to what people think regarding the speed of the weight transfer on the downswing.

    Do you think of getting your weight over as quick/early as possible, or do you shift it gradually with the swinging motion?

    What do you think the good pro ball strikers do?

    I don't think there should be any deliberate attempt to slow or speed up the weight shift.I am convinced the feeling of swinging in complete sync.is the correct feeling to cultivate. I find swinging with feet close together a good drill for correcting many faults including weight shift etc.in addition,it will give the correct swing plane for you, forget all the talk about one plane, two plane, find your natural plane, we all have one.

      I used Nick Bradley's "Step In Drill" to ingrain my weight shift and it worked great. You stand at address with a mid iron and take a narrow stance with the ball just forward of your lead foot, take the club to the top and momentarilly before starting down move your front foot ahead of the ball, then swing down to impact. It ingrains a natural flowing change of weight from the back to front foot.

      Not sure where the swing plane comes into it though?

        Hey guys.

        I guess what I'm trying to get at is whether you think that at impact all weight should be on the left or just the majority.

        To my way of thinking we surely can't have all our weight on the lead foot at impact if we are to keep our head behind the ball as the head is the heaviest part of our body. And if I interpret slow motion video of someone like Hogan correctly, full weight on the lead foot cannot be established until the end of the follow through where the head has been pulled over the lead leg by momentum???

        There is definately what looks like a backwards lean to all good ball strikers through impact. That's not to say they're adding weight to the back foot, but rather they surely cannot have all their weight on their front foot (essentially ahead of the body turn), otherwise "head behind the ball" is a physical impossibility isn't it?

        Just having issues with it at the moment.

          Neil,

          The step in drill will answer the question for you. It's just like walking, the weight progressively moves from one foot to the other, the distribution percentage is not important as long as it happens.

            I'll give it a go Brian.

            I may be completely missing the point here, but I can progressively move my weight, or move it instantly, but what's the relationship in timing between progressively moving the weight and my hands? I could progressively move it ahead of my hands, or with my hands, if you see what I mean.

            I'm so confused!!!!!!!!!!!!

              To me the only time it really matters is at impact. Weight should be mainly over the left foot, head behind ball, hips opening, right shoulder lower than left, right knee pushing towards left, right heel just coming off the ground.

              Go on, try the drill now! Pick up on the wave like motion from back leg to front. The answer is in the drill

                JFDI eh Bri?!

                I can't practice it now because I have banned myself from swinging my 7 iron indoors. 3 bulbs and a remote control have been destroyed at the expense of practice!

                I shall do it tomorrow when I shall practice for as long as the daylight allows, in a field, out of reach of bulbs, remotes and fine china.

                          D'ya know what Bri, you may have helped me stumble across an issue that has long been etched in the core of my swing and I've never managed to nail it down.

                          I tried your "air-whack-invisible-7-iron-step-to-this-thing" and found I still couldn't get that fluidity of stepping through and turning to allow my right side into the shot naturally.

                          This may be stating the bleedin' obvious but I got back on V1 and put my most recent swing (yesterday) up against Sam Sneads as I have done countless times before, but had been focusing on something entirely different.

                          Lo and behold, I couldn't allow my right side into the shot because I never moved it out of the way in the backswing! Trying to put my right hip into it when I haven't even moved it out of the way in the first place is torso twisting madness, I tell you! No wonder I get back ache, can't keep my head behind the ball in the proper fashion and straighten my right leg in the backswing! My right hip is going from static at address position and all the way through the backswing to moving in an upwards fashion in the downswing which is no help to anyone! Level hips, spinning out, dipping right shoulder - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

                          I'll put that to the test tomorrow and may even post a video or two (if it goes well! If it all goes horribly wrong you won't hear from me for a week!)

                              Backward lean...spine tilt at address...increases in the downswing.
                              Wieght shift? How about rotation...50/50 or 60/40 irons...50/50
                              40/60...driver...Modern golf swing.
                              Old school...load up the right....transfer...shift...stuck... ect...ect...
                              downswing fire the hips! To many moving parts,especially the legs
                              throws the arms off the core...starts chasin the club down the line.
                              Take alook at these fella's.
