Okay, I am getting extremely frusterated. I have no flexibility flaws, but for some reason, I cannot get my right shoulder to rotate back. My left shoulder will be in at a 90 degree turn, but my right shoulder won't rotate back. I can still see it from face on views. What are some of the common causes of this?

Re: Right Shoulder Will NOT Rotate Back!!!!
Don't think of the "shoulders" rotating so much as what the "torso" does to rotate (stomach and chest).
It's easy to isolate one part, and forget that you have a lot of other pieces that play along too.

in thinking about the torso (stomach and chest going back....i find when i do that...i have a tendency to do a slight to medium reverse pivot) is there a slight BUMP to the right as i begin back??

Jim McLean has said some people get better rotation thinking about moving the right shoulder behind their neck on the backswing.
Finally, check to make sure your hips are moving correctly. If your right hip moves into a high position on the backswing it will hinder the rest of your body rotation.

Depending on your swing you may want to think about a bump or shift starting (with either the whole body, or the upper body and head, not only your hips) back before you turn. (Often advocated for hookers who have gotten into the habit of purely turning).
You should also monitor your back knee and hip. If they straighten, rise, or tilt (instead of rotating) your weight and body may shift into a reverse pivot or weight shift.

Re: Right Shoulder Will NOT Rotate Back!!!!
Its getting better. I was taking the club to the inside which can create a pretty armsy/wristy swing so now i'm focusing on keeping the club outside of my hands. I've definitely got some work to do with my pro tomorrow. I'm striping it with everything 7 and below but it hasn't carried over to the longer clubs. I need to get more comfortable with the new feel and probably fix some downswing errors that have risen from being out of position for so long and compensating.
The shoulder is getting back better just because of this...its a little sore too, muscles I haven't used really as long as I've been swinging like I have. Still got more work to do but I'm willing to put in the time it takes to improve.
Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of trying to rotate my shoulder behind my neck. Some of my problem could reside in setup as well and I'll work on that with the pro tomorrow as well.
Thank you for your quick replies.
