generally i find myself asking a set of questions each time i make an approach. What club will get me to the front of the green- eg pw. Which club will take me over the green - 8i. Club to hit is then 9. owever to follow this one needs to know the distance you hit each iron.

        Gordz,

I have my students mark the distances with a peice of tape on the club shaft. Most golf courses in the US have 150 yard markers to the center of the green. Know what club to use for that distance and practice it a lot. Guage your other clubs from the 150 marker.

        For example, I hit a 8i comfortably to 150 yards. 9i 138, PW 125.
I can hit each of these clubs farther but if I take a balanced swing at 80% that is the distance. Since I have been practicing for the long drive contest these distances have been creeping up. I will probably be hitting my 9i 150 yards by qualifing time.

        Hope this helps you,

Welecome to the forum although you did not fill in your details (pet hate)

If you look at the forum "Course Management" we had a very good discussion about this very subject a few weeks ago.

Personally I think knowing your yardages is the best game improvement advice "ever" and I mean EVER.

once you have a good basic swing!!!!

Don't run before you can walk, you asked for an "easy way" there isn't one!!

Read the Course Management forum below, you will see I discovered yardages by caddying.

I think Golfbald's idea of putting yardage on the club is a top tip. I use a laminated card with my yardages on and place it in the scorecard much as you would a book mark.

Knowing the distances you can expect to hit a club is a distinct advantage. However, you have to take other things into account, such as the lie of the ball, wind, slope and course management. All of which have to fed into the computer and sometimes it doesn't compute right ... damn computers

                  Yardages

Your far more advanced than me,

My yardages are on the reverse side of one of my business cards.

Golfbalds idea is a good one but it's hard enough getting the sticky manufacturers prices off without putting more stickers on!!!!!!!!
