I was once given a great tip from a good friend of mine. I rememer struggling to judge the distance on the greens and he told me very simply for more distance feel to place my right forefinger down the shaft (grip)...
It worked like a dream ten years ago and just as well today. There's only so much that the soft insert face putters can do!
