am i nuts!

just as i thought i figure it out, i noticed something in my woods. i guess i should ask, are woods offset? the woods are right handed big bertha III/s 5,3 1 (11degree). i have noticed at address i can turn the club face so that the shaft and the club face are in line like my dads 30 year old irons. but if i turn them another direction, the shaft will be pivoted back in the stance and the degree depends on the club, 5 wood having the most "set" back or slant. in either case hitting in this position dictates the placement of the ball in the stance. 5w being almost in the middle. however if i pivot the club shaft around and square the face i can play the ball foward or back depending where i like. as you guess i am still a beginner and am appraching my first year of playing.

which is correct? allow for the club shaft to be angled back in the stance with the club face square? or the other?
