Hey guys I was wondering if someone has had this similar problem and can help me find out what i'm doing wrong. I realize it's hard to say without watching me hit the ball but i'm a little confused. Sometimes when I tee off with my driver every thing is fine and I can murder the ball around 350-360 yards. After a few holes go by my swing completely goes away and it's either a 150ish slice, or a low swooping hook. I have the ball placed rougly around my big toe on my left foot and my good drives MIGHT only show up two more holes after that. In turn I can take rougly the same approach, use a 3 wood and have absolutley no problem hitting the ball long and straight off the tee and off the fairway. Can someone please give me some tips or advice on what I could possibly be doing wrong. Are my hands possibly not infront of the ball? I would appreciate any help.

Re: Funky Driving
To be combining 350 yard drives with 150 yard slices does not compute. Either the yardages are wrong on your course markers/maps, or your 350 yarders are more like 250.
350 is gonna be around 7-8 seconds of flight time (eternity!). And there can't be much wrong with a swing that does that, that can then go so wrong.

As far as the rest of you of course saying i'm lying this post is bogus, I don't really care, the estimated range is based off what the course's yardage marker is from the white tee to the green. Some of our par 4's at the local course here clearly say 342 yds to the green. To shoot over the green that would roughly be around 350-360. But since your all so sure i'm lying nevermind with my original question. My drive's are only 20 yards. There ya go, you guys got the big stick now, not me. I'll venture else where and find help. Enjoy your games.

Re: Funky Driving
I did not reply to the original post. As Brian, Neil and others have suggested, carry of 350 is way beyond the top average for the tour players. When that is combined with the inability to score well (maintain a low handicap), and/or the golfer having basic swing faults (huge slices, etc), it does not seem practical/probable.
There are many who believe they hit the ball much farther than they actually do. The USGA have found that most casual golfers, who have a fairly decent game and play a couple of times a week, think they hit 250 yard carry drives. They found that these golfers actually hit an average of 200 yards carry.
That is not to say the casual golfer would crank a low bullet off a hard fairway and have it finish perhaps 300 yards every once in a while, but that's an anomoly. To use someone's phrase earlier in this post, a casual golfer with perhaps a flawed and 80-100 mph swing speed does not compute to 350 yards average carry.
That is also not to say there are very good casual golfers, who have the swing and ability to hit pro level driver distances, but these are the exceptions, such as the statistic which says that only 90% of golfers break 100 on the average (something like this, anyways).
I have also driven alleged 400 yard holes, but I do not take any credence to this accomplishment. I know how far I really hit the ball. There may also be contributing mitigating reasons, such as a slight downhill hole, prevailing following winds, dogleg, etc, or a combination of these. I had my eyes opened many many years ago when I started to play, once I played "real" courses, and wondered why I barely got to the 150 yard marker, whereas on "uncertified" courses, I would be led to believe I hit the ball to the 100 yard mark.
One of the most common reason there is the notion of hitting farther than actual is that many public courses are not certified for distances by the authorities, be it OGA (Ontario Golf Association) which is my area authority, and those which apply in other areas and countries. This authority surveys the course and the yardages and provide their official plaques (discs) in the ground. Many private, resort and "better" courses have this done, for obvious reasons. There is a cost involved and many local courses do not bother. They would sooner have the public believe the enhanced yardages, and also have the public feel good about their games so they will come back. There is nothing wrong with this, as some of the local courses are very enjoyable and have the old course mature feeling, and I love that.

All we're doing is trying to ascertain what you're perceived problems really are, as perception can be very different from reality. That ain't the same as lying.
For anyone on hear to blindly attempt to offer advice on the information you've provided so far would be foolish. So actually we're all doing you a favour at the moment.
You've moved the goalposts slightly too. Your original post said your drives either go 350, or 150. Now we're a little closer when you say your drives now veer hard right when 150 yards out. You see how details can make all the difference?
So, in the interest of attempting to be helpful, let me take your query as "I hit big straight ones, then I don't understand why I hit huge banana slices that start straight". Yardage doesn't matter then.
Without video I would conclude that it's purely a timing issue. Sometimes it's on for you, sometimes it isn't. When it isn't, it leaves the clubface open. If the ball is starting straight the sidespin will take over after 100-150 yards and change the flightpath to hard right if the face has been left well open. Slightly open will see a gradual fade.
Have a play with what you do with your hands through impact, or even look at strenthening your grip. That could see you hit consistent draws and the odd stright one/fade when you're timing's off. Much better!
I's all about closing the clubface through the ball.

OK, he's not lying, he's just misinformed. Like Bush was misinformed about WMD, like Mark Sanford being misinformed about what constitutes "love", like Cheney being misinformed about what it means to out a CIA officer.
LOL,

Re: Funky Driving
Some of you guys come across as total jerks. Just because you can't hit it over 300 yards doesn't mean other people can't. My average drive is around 300 yards and I have a friend that consistently puts it 330 in the air. This was not gauged off how long a certain golf course said their fairway was either. We were members of a driving range where we personally knew the owner. He had the range measured so his markers were precisely at 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and then he had a ditch dug across at 350 yards so no rolling golf balls would go past that. I consistently hit around the 300 yard marker and my friend bounced a large percentage of his balls into the ditch.
Interesting point is, that was before I even took up golf as a hobby. I was only on the driving range at that point. Since then my swing speed has picked up to the point that I had to go to a stiffer shaft.
Anyway, the bottom line is, there are people out there who can hit the ball long distances that aren't playing in the PGA or aren't in the long drive championships. Get a grip people and try to help this guy out if you can.

I've hit 343 and 362 (paced out from the tee) and I accept that others can and do hit over 300. Why would I not?
The problem was that the facts stated didn't match up.
Now they do.
If taking what we've been told and attempting to gain clarification prior to giving help (which has now been given) is being a jerk, so be it.
OK, keiko could maybe work on his communication skills a touch! But it's not worthy of insult. He was just more concise than the rest of us!
