    Re: Funky Driving

You have to admit, including your diatribe, a little hard to believe.
If you asked 10 PGA tour professionals about your stories, 1 would tell you to prove it and the other guys would just walk away smiling.

We were members of a driving range where we personally knew the owner. He had the range measured so his markers were precisely at 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and then he had a ditch dug across at 350 yards so no rolling golf balls would go past that. I consistently hit around the 300 yard marker and my friend bounced a large percentage of his balls into the ditch.
Interesting point is, that was before I even took up golf as a hobby. I was only on the driving range at that point. Since then my swing speed has picked up to the point that I had to go to a stiffer shaft.
Anyway, the bottom line is, there are people out there who can hit the ball long distances that aren't playing in the PGA or aren't in the long drive championships. Get a grip people and try to help this guy out if you can.

Maybe I should have said "One of you guys come across as a total jerk".
Keiko, there are people out there(me included) that hit the ball 300 yards. If you would like me to prove it, let me know next time you're in Moncton, NB and I'll do just that.
Just because you can't get it past 200 yards doesn't mean that every one else on here has a crippled half back swing like you.

OK, what would you advise him to do?

            Re: Funky Driving

Most people would be happy with a 265 consistent draw from their driver. I've been trying to get a draw into my game for a few years with no good results.

Anyway, for the original poster....does the same thing happen to you on the driving range? I had a similar issue with slices at 200 yards after I had played a few holes, but the same thing didn't happen on the range. On the course I'd have a few good holes with very good drives, then along came the horrendous slice. I took a scratch golfer out for a round to take a look at my game. What he noticed was that I was relaxed for the first few then after that my swing with my driver became noticably faster. It was a head game with me. I didn't notice it myself, but he picked it up right away. I was swinging harder and it caused the face of my driver to be open which resulted in the slice. Could this be your issue? Hard to say without playing a round with you, but, when this starts happening to you, try to relax and swing easier to see if it fixes it for you.

            Good Luck

First of all jerkoff, as a canadian hibernating in NB, you are probably measuring your drives like you measure your fish; a 2 foot fish becomes 6 feet after a few brews.
secondly, I routinely drive over 285 carry while you are counting carry roll and kicking the ball out of the trees.
Thirdly, the poster is lying, you and I both know it.

Haven't fished in years, don't drink, and I don't kick my ball. That would be cheating.
Yes, I am counting carry and roll.
No, we don't know this guy is lying....although he could be. We can, however, give some advice that may help him.

Ok, you win. My advice is not to lie. Golf is a game of honesty.

It's not a fight....I would just like to see beginners get more advice then ridicule. Of course, none of us actually know how well most of the other members on this forum play or how far each one can drive the ball. We have to trust that what they're saying on here is true. That's all there is too it. No fighting, just good advice....hopefully.

I know. I was attempting to lighten the mood.

Note to self. Must try harder.

Just for the record, I got a PM from the OP. He tried my advice about relaxing and taking a normal swing and hit 14 of 18 fairways.

                            That's it! Stir the pot!

                            1. Unnecessary post, really. Cheap shot. You could have simply been safe in the knowledge that what you told him helped. It's just lowered the tone of the thread still further. Your previous attempts at taking the higher road have been shot to hell by your own post.

                            2. He must have some gargantuan par 3's at his course if there's 18 fairways! (he said, still attempting to lighten the mood!)

                            This is a funny thread!

You see it really sums golf up... I sometimes really stick one and hit the ball further than I normally do, but always on dog-legs that mean I go too long and into the rough

Anyways glad you could help him canadian_man_44, if he's lying/misinformed or not it doesn't really matter as long as he tries to improve like us all (from me to Tiger )

...oh an btw, if anyone is concerned about the yardages being correct, you can always check them on Google Earth.
