What Long Distance Shaft?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a really good long distance shaft for my driver? At present I am using a Taylor Made R510 with a grafalloy shaft. I was thinking of the pro force gold? but am open to your suggestions. Something that will give me some real distance! Cheers

Hi BWood,

The most popular shaft manufacturers for LD competitions is probably Penley or Harrison. If you are a fan of UST products (Pro Force Gold is only 46"), the Competition 75 Wood is their only product over 46", but that shaft is only 47".

The average shaft length is 48" to 50" in LD competitions. The maximum allowed shaft length is 52".

under the USGA rules 4-1, APPENDIX II design of clubs, 1-c:

Length
The overall length of the club must be at least 18 inches (457.2 mm) and, except for putters, must not exceed 48 inches (1,219.2 mm). For woods and irons, the measurement of length is taken when the club is lying on a horizontal plane and the sole is set against a 60 degree plane. The length is defined as the distance from the point of the intersection between the two planes to the top of the grip. For putters, the measurement of length is taken from the top of the grip along the axis of the shaft or a straight line extension of it to the sole of the club.
Note:Clubs in breach of the maximum length limit as specified in Appendix II, 1c, which were in use or marketed prior to January 1, 2004 and which otherwise conform to the Rules, may be used until December 31, 2004.

Are you sure the max length for LD is 52"? I thought Rocky was swinging a 58"?

Long Drive shafts are measured different that USGA shafts. A LD shaft is measured while the club is sitting on it's toe the length cannot exceed 52" the shafts generally are 2" shorter by USGA measurements.

The winningest shaft in LDA history is Accuflex, Jody Baucom put's out some awesome shaft, a recently released model is using nano technology. Mercury Golf in my opinion has the best LD shaft on the market right now. I am helping test an up and comer Aggressive Shafts from Low Pro Golf. I am making recommendation for improvements to the prototypes. It will be out at the PGA show.

Yes, you will see alot of Harrisons and Penleys represented. The Remax long drive championship will be webcast next weekend. I'm still trying to get off work to go!!!

Deffenetly best shaft is Yellow Harrison Pro 2,5 with Ti Tip you can get it in 52 inch lenght and fit it in you best size.
