  • No LIFT on my drives??

    Hi

Wondering if I can get any advice (preferably in laymans terms as I am a newbie to golf) on what to do with my drives. For some reason I just cannot seem to get any air or lift on my drives. They just seem to scuttle along the ground.

I have had lessons and been playing a little over 7 months now regularly. My drives are so accurate I have even rattled the pin on a par 3 however they just seem to bounce along the ground.

So no problems with distance or accuracy just want to get some air!

I feel like I have tried everything. Someone suggested even teeing the ball with a higher tee but I just dont feel this will solve the problem. (I'll still try this on the next game however!).

Any help would be so much appreciated I am so frustrated.

    Thanks
    Lisa

Re: No LIFT on my drives??

If you're accuracy is good then getting some lift is pretty straigtforward. Here are some checkpoint for you:

    1. Tee the ball up nice and high. The top of the clubhead should be level with the mid-point of the ball. In other words the top-half of the ball is above the top of the clubhead.

    2. Make sure the ball is forward in your stance. The ball should be level with your left foot.

    3. The driver should contact the ball after it has reached the lowest point of the swing. The club should therefore be on it's way upwards when it reaches the ball. If 1. and 2. are right then this will help you achieve 3. which will result in elevation on your drives.

    Hope this helps

Re: No LIFT on my drives??

Thanks Paul for making your reply in simple terms as I really feel the problem is actually something very simple.

Funny enough when I was at the driving range today I bumped into my instructor who watched a few of my drives and commented that my ball position was too far back in my stance but unfortunately I was on the last couple of range balls!

I shall implement your advice on my next visit to the course.

Your advice is very much appreciated.

Sounds like a stance issue to me too.

However, I noticed that kingston said to see the ball high: however, when I do this, I end up hitting the ball exactly to the height I teed it It's not always the case.

Re: No LIFT on my drives?? (cont'd)

YAY! I cant believe it I'm all fixed thanks to you guys advice.
FYI it was just a stance issue - thank you so much, feels great to get some air (albeit even maybe a little 'too' much on some holes!)

Any easy to follow advice like the last for use of my 3 wood? Its maybe the last club in my bag that I am still hestitant to use due to unsuccessful hits in the past?

          Thanks
