  • Should i change

    G'day,
Right now I've hit a stage where my game is consistant and my drives straight, but I know there are a few changes in my swing that could get me an extra 20-30 yards.

Now i hit about 75-85% of fairways and have a max distance of about 280 yards but mostly hit around 240-260. Do you think a change is warranted, bearing in mind the last two round i've had were par and -2?

    Cheers, A

    Re: Should i change

Alistair, I'm sure that TeachingPro will back me up, but distance is not the be all and end all. If you had to sacrifice your accuracy for more distance, would you still want more distance?

As you've already said, you're long enough to shoot great scores - par and 2 under - how much longer do you have to be?

If I were you, I'd end the quest for distance - and start the quest for consecutive rounds at par or better!

Congrats on your low scores - I hope one day I'll be there!

I'll second that. I'm sure there is no par 4 you can't reach in 2 or a par 5 you can't reach in three. Stick to what works, unless something (other than distance) is troubling you. Keep up the good work!!!

I should add the caveat - if scoring at par or better consistently isn't what you want to do, by all means go in search of a swing mechanic that will give you more distance.

But don't complain to me that you're playing bogey golf again!

Thanks guys! I guess my only concern is when I finally get down to playing a long hole like 600+ par 5's into headwinds I'll just crumble. I look back on about 5 months ago when i really started to work the fine points of my swing and if i heard myself now i'd probably slap myself...

          Cheers for the wise words

^ That's what your short game is for - obviously you'll hit Driver, 3w, mid iron, then get up and down for par. (I know, I know, easier said than done).
