    Re: More roll, Less height

With all I've been kearing about soft fairways in the UK I suggest that once things dry up you will get a fair amount of roll.

Also, are you still hitting a draw with your driver? If you have now gone to a straight shot or a fade, that will increase the height and lessen the distance that you would be used to hitting with a draw.

Nature of the beast these days Ricky. Drivers and balls are designed by Americans who play nice lush wind free turf nurseries all year. Most of the new gear is designed to carry and stop. As Gord says come the dryer weather you will get a few more yards roll. Drawing the ball also adds roll due to topspin.

The only way to change it is to change shaft. A lot of players find that the Grafalloy blue gives them a really penetrating ball flight with added roll.

I wouldnt concern yourself too much though Ricky its not worth a major swing overhaul for a few yards roll.

Obviously you haven't played in 90% of the courses her in the US. In Kansas where i live every day is on average 15-30 mph of wind, with an occasionaly day like today with no wind and some of 60 mph. And the course i play on the greens are like upside down bowls. Easy, length wise yes, putting shots on the typically over dry greens and sticking, not so easy. Putting is a different story here. On the second hole, the hardest one as far as im concerned, you can put your second pin high and still putt off of the front, that downhill. Windless, i daresay no. Perfectly kept? hardly

Over here in Oz we have hard dry ground and my driver didn't get much roll so I changed the degree from 10.5 to 7.5 I now have a lower ball flight and get more roll. I now have about 15 more yards on my drives from 245 yards to 260 yards. But over here in Australia we play on pretty hard ground. On a softer coarse I lose more roll.

Of course you get less roll in softer conditions. I am switching to a 9.5-10.5 driver from 11.5 also
