  • Reaching and moving the ball?

This what I mean......I'm standing quite a bit from the ball and REACHING with my arms. Thus I'm starting my backswing inside the line slightly.

Also I MOVE THE BALL back near the middle of my stance.

The thing is....I'm hitting my driver as solid as I've ever done and also almost as long as I used too (By doing both those things and quieting my hips and legs, I'm no longer slicing)

Yet, all the books I've read and instructional advice on the telly advise against this.

Should I go back to the root of my problem, which is obviously my swing plane, and not rolling my wrist over properly or just carry on with what I'm doin.

I'm a high handicapper who's handicap is steadily coming down, with each game.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with your handicap. If you really want to go low, then your fundamentals have to be correct. You can only go down so far with flawed fundamentals. I used to come way inside on my backswing and had a bad position at the top. With that, I could get down to the the low tens handicap but it wasnt until I fixed it that I could go down to a much lower handicap.
I wouldnt say that what you are doing now with reaching out is flawed but moving the ball back in your stance does seem a bit strange especially with the driver. To me, the longer the club, the more sweeping action is needed and putting the ball back in your stance doesnt allow that.
