  • Huge draw

I am a 9 yr. old who has been playing this game since I was 4.Of late my tee shots and also my irons are having a huge draw
    a) is it ok to have such a pronounced draw?
b)how do I control this ,can I start my ball a little bit more to the left(i am a south paw) and bring it back?
    any advice?

    Re: Huge draw

thats weird, usually lefties have balls that go left to right, but to fix ur problem, check ur feet, there probablly closed, so if u aim at the target and ur feet are closed, a draw usually happens, so its probably something like that.
U could also try strenghting ur grip.

      Re: Huge draw

shiv - its great to have a young leftie on the board! If i could give you some advice it's that at this stage of your golfing life you should realy concentrate on learning the fundamentals of grip, aim, stance and posture. I know they can be boring but if you get these wrong now you will learn to play with compensations in your swing that will hurt your golf later in life. I advise getting a good teaching book or taking lessons with a pro and really nail down the fundamentals. I wish i had done that when i took golf up, it would have saved me much time and trouble!!!

As to playing with a big draw - there is obvioulsy something in your swing (maybe grip or how you are swinging) causing this. Now whilst you could take the easy way and play with a big draw, eventually your swing will groove this swing pattern and could lead to problems in your later golfing life!

Sorry my advice is boring but if you want to become as good as you can at this game (which i am sure you do!) then at your age, the fundamentals are the most important aspect.

      hope that helps

Is it really a draw or is it a hook?
I mean if you start it down the middle of the fairway, will it end up in the rough?
How far is the ball moving left to right in the air?

          Thanks for the instant response,
My dad who is my coach has worked hard with my fundamentals..! I mean he has worked hard -"he still is not very happy with my implementation"He videographs me constantly to check for swing flaws and other fundamental errors which keep creeping in.
It is not as if I hook the ball, the ball never goes out of the fairway, but then I miss the greens -moreoften ending up in the sand, yes he tells me that I have a slightly closed stance which is promoting a draw
I carry my drive about 150-160 yards ,i am not sure if its okay because I can hit my 8 iron about 100 yards any thoughts on this?

              Yeah...just a tad...
Are you sure you are not missing an extra digit in your age?
Oh and as for worrying about only hitting a drive 180, dont, worry about school and what cartoons are on.
              You are 9.
