Help with high trajectory

Hi all, Im noticing on my drives that it goes about 200 yards but at a high angle, see pic, and just dies. Im not getting much if any roll. I have a pic Ill try to attach. Im using a cleveland launcher 400 with aldila nv 65g stiff shaft with a swing speed of around 110 and a maxfli revolution tour ball...any ideas how to help? I am in the market for a new driver

Just read your reply but couldnt view the attachment. My thoughts on this, but they might be wrong as I am new to golf myself. Firstly I would ask whats your driver angle i.e. is it 10.5 deg? also how are you teeing up? i.e. ball high up so your hittting on the up swing?

If you are hitting the ball on the up swing then I would suggest try teeing it set further down and see if that helps. The reason I say this is that it seems a cheaper alternative to changing your driver.
but if you want to change your driver then probably you need to go down a few degs on loft.

Disagree with above. you want to tee the ball high to gain distance. lowering the ball on the tee will promote a up and down type swing which will make the problem worse. Also on these large head drivers the sweet spot is towards the top of the club. I'll take a guess that your swing is already up and down and you need to level it out. I doubt if it is the driver, especially with a stiff shaft.

Agreed with MSK. Anytime I start hitting the ball too high, I am starting the downswing with arms instead of hips and it creates a much more steep angle into the ball. Make sure you start with hips and let the club drop in. A driver should be hit on the upswing.

I have a 10.5 degree driver with a regular shaft, I would guess I have a slower swing speed, I dont rip at the ball.
I hit my drives around the 265m mark. (287 yrds)
I get zero roll.
During this time of year I lose a lot of golf balls to the rough as they plug and I cant find them.
Its not unusual for me to get 1-2 feet "backspin" with my driver. (King Cobra 440sz)
Its not a problem.
Do you often hit the ball off the top of the club (not on the face, on the part you look down on) if so it will be marked. It *should* be pristine as the day you bought it.
If its not you and not catching the ball on the up swing and thats your problem.

well with my other driver gone I just picked up a brand new r7, gonna take her to the range asap and see what I can do

Well unless there is a massive difference in loft there wont be much of a difference.
If the problem is swing/setup related then thats what you need to work on.

Do you have the same problem with 3wood or 5 wood?

nope my old 3 wood and my 5 wood are my staple clubs, I can get 230 out of the 3 and 200 out of the 5

Hi

My problem is exactly the opposite. I just don't get height with my driver and 3 wood. I have tried teeing up, slowing my swing, hitting down on the ball (in the fairway) and keeping the ball ahead in my setup, but always fail to get my ball up. well I do get distance and roll but can't clear obtacles due lack of height. Any suggestions please

Hi Im new to Golf about 10 month and I develop the same problem mi ball flight is terribly high and huge slice...
Now Im very good coming out of the trees (because) mi slice problem
anyone can help me I belive there is hope
before I was consider a big hitter My friends told me I was able to hit 300 yards easy if I improve my grip,stance....
after i got my first lesson my posture became relly good looking but develop my high fly and slice.
is there help?

Ok well to reply to dnm and B11NONGOLF about hitting their drives high and to the right i know exactly what you are doing and some great cures for it. For the longest time i had been hitting my drives so high up, approximately 150 yards high with about a 220 yard carry and maybe 1-5 yards of roll. I always thought that it was just because of my driver loft and the fact that it had offset. A few days ago there was a big demo day where i live and cobra had their launch monitor available so i tried it out. Turns out when i hit my driver, at impact the angle was 21 degrees and my driver is 10.5. After all my shots were doing so high 2 of the club pros helped me out and here is what they said. The first one told me to try to hook the ball, this way (1) my slice would go away (2) my trajectory would be lower and (3) i would get more distance. This helped me out so much on lowering my ball flight. Now the 2nd pro showed me waht i was doing and he got me down to my impact position and the club was always facing the sky either strait or to the right. What he had me do was swing the club back and through but once i got to impact make sure that the club face was facing more towards the ground. After a few practice swings i was hitting the ball lower that way too. Now 5 days later my ball flight is so much lower and im getting anything from 250-280 yards with roll. Also another thing i found out the other day was that the stronger grip i had in my left hand the lower the ball would go.

Based on the info you have provided this sounds like a swing issue not an equipment issue. With 110 mph swing speed your "mis hits" should still carry this distance. Are you losing the ball to the right at all? I see many golfers who hit fairway woods well but tend to get off plane with their driver. I have had this problem myself. I would reccommend starting there. Your swing path and tempo will determine your ball flight and distance. If you get even a little off plane both will suffer and the result is often a high weak shot.

I had the same problem and put it down to the club rather than my swing (changing from a Ping G2 NVS65 Stiff 10 degree to an R7 425 with factory fitted reg shaft). I guess what I should have spent the money on lessons as I got the same results!

Having spent some money on lessons I found I was teeing the ball too high (though the ball still needs to be high - so you can see some of it above the club head and had the ball too far forwards. The main reason was a steep angle of attack and over the top action.

I now come in at a shallower angle of attack, hitting inside the back of the ball and my trajectory is far better. I am sure I would have the same (if not slightly better with my old club so I am £100's down for no reason).

how you hit it low
open your stance
keep your club low at the start of the backswing
put the ball in the middle to front of your stance

Hi dnm,

Consider checking your aligment too as you could be open at address.

If you are open at impact this will cause the club face to be open and you will hit a high fade.

Your hands may not be turning over at impact because you are not aligned properly. Again causing the club face to be open through impact.
