  • Correcting a push to the right with 460 cc driver

Just acquired a new 460cc driver with a medium flex shaft. Most of my drives are off center beween 1 and 2 o'clock. No slice, just straight to that position. I'm uncomfortable with the head size and have not adjusted to it's massivie appearance and ball height on the tee. I believe positioning is the same as it was with other smaller headed drivers and my 3W. Should I tee the ball higher, move it to the rear or foward of my current spot?

My swing is 92 mph today...slower than it used to be. When younger I played a stiff metal shaft with a heavy persimmon headed driver. Now at age 57 my swing is down to 92 mph yet I don't feel like I am getting around with this big club head. Your thoughts and advice please.

    Dear bboyle,

We have a lot in common. I am also 57 and am hitting a Nike Ignite 460cc. When I first got the driver, I was hitting it on the heel all the time. I got a packet of the pieces of paper that you stick to your clubhead to see where I was making contact.

I ended up having to move back away from the ball in order to hit it on the sweet spot. Now when I line up, my clubhead is actually lined up just short of the ball. When I do this, I make perfect contact.

It is only a suggestion, but if I were you, I would try this same trick to see where you are making contact. I think the increased size and weight tends to pull the clubhead out a little farther. I have heard this from several sources and my own testing proves this out.

Give it a try and let me know what you find out.
