  • No distance on Irons

I have been playing golf for about 6 months. I think I am pretty good, I wish I started 10 years ago like alot of pros. I havn;t played at a real course yet but I go to the driving range twice a week. I learned to play from the TV and websites like this.

    I can carry my
    driver about 260-270yds
    pw 115yds
    9I 130yds
8I 150yds..... but my 7-3 iron only goes 160 yds. I my shot is pretty striat, a pull on a bad shot. I can't figure out why my irons go so short.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreaciated!

    the tempo perhaps ?
Tru to keep the same swing speed and tempo, or maybe your're swing using your hands...not your shoulder.

I can swing the irons very well up to 4 irons but I can't hit a driver since that . I've been playing for a year.

I saw something on tv that said to move your hands about 3 inches towards your left foot to promote a downward swing. That seemed to help me with my irons, hope it helps others

          Re: No distance on Irons

Your question/problem is more common than you might think. We tend to see it a lot and from time to time we see players who hit a 3 wood as far as say their 5-wood and driver.

The first place we look to solve the problem is hand position - normally we seeas the clubs get longer, the hands go further and further behind the golf ball.

Second place to look would be to see if the player is 'scooping' the ball, a natural tendency trying to helpto get the ball airborne. The problem with scopping is thatthe club passes the hands before impact and that is a s-e-r-i-o-u-s power drain.

Also, if you have a good golf shop nearby - get your clubs checked - they might have incorrect lofts and possibly, just possibly, the shafts in the problem clubs are too weak and that adds to the power leak.

            Hi ,
If its of any help you must move the ball forward in your stance for the long irons like 4 and 3. Also you must give yourself a wide stance like the driver. This works for me anyway. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with my irons, from my 3-5 iron are all about the same distance, but its my clubs as I grabbed a friends 4 iron and hit the ball a good 200+ yards, cannot do that with my clubs.

I can't believe you're complaining about the distance you're getting. Especially for the time you've been playing. Keep at it you'll figure it out!
