  • long irons a problem

Although I hit most of my irons good when I get to the 4 an 3 iron I do not get the distance. I have to narrow my stance an play the ball back in my stance in order to catch it clean but only hit my 3 iron around 175-180 yards...

your stance should widen and the ball should move forward in your stance as your clubs get longer. Further back in your stance with a narrow stance really limits the power you can generate and transfer back to the ball.

Thanks, when I widen my stance an play the ball forward I constantly hit fat shots, thats why i narrowed my stance an played it back, any suggestions would be appreciated

do you take divots when you hit your shorter irons? If you are simply trying to pick your ball clean off the fairway, you will tend to have more problems as your clubs get longer trying to perfectly time the bottom of your swing. Hitting down on the ball and taking a small divot after you make contact with the ball should fix your problem.

If this is not your problem, please post a video for review. I'm thinking there may be a weight transfer problem that is causing you grief if the first part isn't the cure.

BTW, how far forward are you playing the ball? As a guide, the ball position for your driver should be just inside your left heel (for righties) and in the center of your stance for a full wedge. From the driver position, the ball should move back slightly as your clubs get shorter.

As for stance, the inside of your feet should shoulder width apart for your driver, and the outside of your feet should be shoulder width apart for a full wedge. As for the rest of the clubs, like ball position, the will fit in between, becomeing narrower from the driver position as your clubs get shorter.
