  • How do you hit golf ball like a rifle shot?

    hi,

I am hitting straight. I just watched few people who hit their ball like a bullet. it start straight before falls down.

Is it due to extreme swing speed? i think i am around 90 mph. WAt what point of time the ball goes like rifle shot?.

I am just curious. I never seen pros hit. Only on TV. But from TV you can't see how they hit.

Can some one tell me the secret behind it?. I am hitting straight it is just that i am getting that straight arrow shot.

    hello?

    Thanks

    alexk,
    to inform you a little
I am 5,9 160 lbs. for me to hit one 300 is no big deal, I have gotten to the point where it takes 310-320 to feel like I really hit it well. for example, today hit driver, 7 iron, on a flat, no wind, 500 yard par 5, drove into the bunker of a 315 yard, 30 foot uphill par 4 I was 10 yards short of pin high. this has become pretty normal
for me it comes down to setting up properly, cupping the right wrist first in the back swing, and maintaining spine angle when I get to the top of the back swing. SEt up is the biggest of those three. The golf swing becomes complicated when the basics have not been taken care of

Are you hitting the ball like a RIFLE?. I relaly think it is due to club head speed. what is your club head speed? it has to be atleast 110 to reach 300+.

When you say like a rifle, I think you mean the ball starts low and then rises. The "secret" to doing this is 1) club head speed and 2) proper impact position. If you look at any tour pro impact position they all have flat left wrists (for right handed) cupped right hand and full rotation of the hips with their head behind the ball. The ball sounds much different coming off the club - like a rifle shot, no clinks and clanks.

Re: How do you hit golf ball like a rifle shot?

Yes . it raises like arrow straight and drops. No curve. I think it is due to swing speed. I hit few driver straight as arrow but not that much speed to go look a bullet.

I really think it is due to few things.

          1. Swing speed (higher the better, more flat trajectory).
          2. Left wrist supinated.
          3. long flat impact area due to right wrist bend.

I have n't mastered those yet. I am just observing...

All i need is more swing speed. My speed is 90. I have to increase to 110 to make my golf worthwhile.

          Thanks.

Alex, what you're describing is Tour trajectory, aka the Teardrop. The apex of the ball flight is beyond the halfway point.

This is by and large a product of good contact. Swing speed is a secondary consideration.

I've had this ballflight a few times in my short golfing career, and each time, it was due to finding the sweetspot, coupled with a great impact position - no throwing the clubhead early, no holding off the finish.

It's a beautiful thing to see, and really helps in holding greens.

Re: How do you hit golf ball like a rifle shot?

I really think i can hit that shot. All i need is 30 mph speed extra. My swing speed now is 90 mph i think. I have n't measured it but i have an idea. i hit driver 250 yards in the air.

Is there a back calculation to find out how much swing speed based on distance on driver?.

              or cheap swing speed indicator?

              Thanks

it isn't extremely acurate but this is what i use

(Each mile an hour=approx. 2.2 yards)

                Clubhead
                Speed
                Avg. Carry
                70 mph
                162 yards

                80 mph
                184 yards

                90 mph
                206 yards

                100mph
                228 yards

                110 mph
                250 yards

                120 mph
                272 yards

                130 mph
                294 yards

                140 mph
                316 yards

Average golfer is at 85 mph
Average PGA Tour player is 116mph
                Tiger averages 125 mph
Long Drive Competitors are above 140mph

Re: How do you hit golf ball like a rifle shot?

as far as hitting it like a rifle i am not sure what you are talking about or tour trajectory or teardrop. i think equipment makes a big difference on this though. a lower kickpoint or a higher flexablitly will give the ball more spin where as a higher kickpoint/lowtorque shaft seem to have what i hear people call boring trajectory which is what i have. i have competed in a local driving cometition and some people have some wierd ball flight trajectories. mine is very boring, it hit it on the upswing i gradually climbs and then gradually falls as it is going foward so i think the thing that makes your ball start low and rise is the back spin on the ball which uses presure change (kind of like a planes wing) which makes the ball rise. but there is an optimum ball spin that is not too low and not too high.

but with my old clubs i hit the ball and it seemed to almost step up everyfew yds and once it reached the highest point, it seemed to jsut hit a wall and just fall strait down. is that a teardrop shape? i seem to get a lot more distance with my "boring" trajectory. i get the teardrop a lot more with my irons which i like becuase that helps me stop or get roll back. i think it is easier with irons becuaese they generally have a higher back spin rate

does anyone have the ablility to draw these shapes on paint or something and post it on here?

driver speed at the pga show was 115+, I am hitting it farther now so I imagine it has increased. ALso, impact conditions matter.
player A hits the ball at 120 mph but has bad impact conditions so by the time the ball leaves the club face the club is traveling 100 mph
player B hits the ball at 115 but has good impact conditions so by the time the ball leaves the club is going 110, player B hits it farther

i think it needs to be a bit higher than 110 to reach 300+, that chart i posted isn't set in stone, but i have foudn it to be pretty acurate, i don't think you can hit 300+ with anyhting under 125mph

i agree with sky walker, equipment matters alot

i used to have fat wide sole ****pers, super rainbow flight

got titliest 804s and now i got the rifle trajectory i guess

                          walker,

                          Interesting stats.

It seems like i might be hitting with higher swing speed with woods than irons. Is it possible?.

I also think shaft makes lot difference.

It almost look like i hit my woods at 110 mph and irons with 95mph.

                          That is big difference.

Rifle trajectory means low boring trajectory...it goes straight like bullet and falls straight down.

If you have that kind of trajectory you will either block or hook that shot at worst. I am also so consicous of not going over the swing plane , that hesitation also reduce my swing speed.

I need to find a single move to reach my impact position from top of my swing without too much in my mind. May be i need to strengthen my left wrist and forearm to hit the ball hard as possible.

that makes perfect sence. woods and drivers are longer so your swing speed will be faster. another stat i hear is about ever inch of shaft you will get an extra 6 mph. now that is of course if you hit the ball perfectly. mosy people that use longer shafts have a hard time hitting the sweet sspot so that stat is useless. but i have no problem hitting the sweet spot on my driver, i find it almost impossible to not hit the sweet spot on theese huge drivers faces now a days.

i have that low trajectory and my avg is a 280yds draw, but my bad shot is a pull about 60yds left.

but that is because i can control ong shafts easily, i hit a 47". which is about (6mph*2.2yds) 24 yds more that if i had a avg 45" so 255 isn't really that impressive.
