  • Cant decide on whats right.

I am currently hitting my driver two different swing planes, back on the line with a "straight up" move, and also an inside takeaway. While I find that the inside path gives me more distance, it does not give me the same straight consistency. I am going back to the first method as it seems to be the better solution. Am I right in this decision or should the inside takeaway be persisted with? Any views greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Robert

cup the right wrist before that, I cup it right off the ball and my backswing is controlled by my arms and hands. Same as ernie els and ben hogan

          Thanks Shootin,
I have been trying so many different drills, but this seems to be one of the best. It eliminates an awful lot of swing thoughts and gives you a simple solution to good striking. Iwill try your suggestion of an early cup.
          Thanks again,
          Robert

              Shootin,
Would it be correct to say that this early cupping applies with woods also? I find it hard to hit the wood off the fairway. I always set up properly, ball at left heel etc. Maybe this is the missing link?

yes, look at these pictures and notice the cup very early before the left wrist cocks
here is a couple of pictures
tiger, notice his right wrist is fully cupped but the left is not fully cocked

Hi Robert I've also a few different swings which I'm still not sure which one is the best or most correct :P I'm hoping to find a day when I have all the time in the world, and then I'll go and setup a videocam with a stand and record down all my swings and match up the feels with the looks and the results.

I like the early cup technique, but swing arc feels very small and I don't feel like I'm generating much width for power. But an early cup seems to make it easier for me to turn my shoulder back, and that really compensates for the power.

Just sharing some swing thoughts, feel free to comment!

is ernie els wide enough for you? if so he has an early cup, it is an early wrist cock that takes away width

Re: Cant decide on whats right.

The golf swing is around the body not up and down the body therefore, take the club back inside, for driver, weight should be on right side with head behind, ball position on left instep, then turn back around your body. Even Cink who is 6'7" tall takes it around his body.
Taking it straight back more than 12" is a swing killer; taking it back inside then dropping down into the slot is a swing maker
